When you go back and look at some of these old bowl games you have SEC vs SEC. Why?

Was i because there wasn't enough teams that didn't have African American or not enough Bowl Games?

In the old 6 game SEC schedule, you could go years avoiding , err, I mean without playing 4-6 teams in the league depending on if this is before GT and Tulane left). There were no league tie-ins until the 40s or 50s in some bowls. Some bowls paired up SEC teams that hadn't played during the regular season, or if they were highly ranked scheduled a rematch.

Sugar Bowl in '52 - GT v OM - had not played in regular season
1960 Sugar Bowl was rematch of the LSU v. OM Billy Cannon Halloween game
1964 Sugar Bowl - OM and Bama had not played regular season
