Can we all agree these look cheap and stupid. They do not match the quality our university and should not be used ever again.
Hire me to redesign the entire M Club building and we will have a better backdrop to our stadium with integrated premium seating.

In my opinion, things to include in M-Club building
- Cowbell Tower - Big Donors get to ring the bell letting everyone know its time to head to the stadium.
- Junction Overlook on the South Side
- Aesthetically pleasing backdrop to SEC and College Gameday.
- New Home locker rooms, team meeting areas, trainer facilities with full initial medical facilities.
- Refueling station for players.
- New M-Club levels for viewing the game levels 4-5.
- New Sky boxes on levels 2-3.
- Party deck area at the corners to close in the stadium. Could be connected to Junction Overlook.
- New ticket/willcall area, or maybe have all will call happen north of the stadium.

Hall of fame area - Recruiting areas.

I may start a design just to show everyone what we could do and how it will add to the aesthetic of our university.

Didn't they just redo the home team locker rooms?

I agree.

The M Club building is the biggest wasted piece of real estate on campus.

With it location as connecting the stadium to the Junction, the possibilities are endless as to its potential prominence.

It's incredible that we haven't done anything.

I hear they're going to tear it down and build a clone of Dorman in its place.

The Home team locker room is now in the north end zone I think. Will call and the ticket office has been in the north end zone since expansion.

How do they enter and exit the south side then? I am pretty sure our home locker rooms are on the south endzone.

Which corner?

Which corner?

Opposite the visitors locker room is what I was told. The old locker room will be part of an expanded recruiting lounge. If it isn't happening this year it's going to be soon I think.

No offense to the firms designing stuff on campus like the Dude, the STEM building, or the football expansion, but it is time a local guy had a shot to design something of note. Firms in Jackson and the coast had their time. Some people like myself have invested in Starkville, has the experience of working on and designing 40+ million dollar complex designs, and can literally walk to the stadium in 5 minutes. Big bonus is that my fees stay in Starkville.

Yeah those firms have 20+ employees. Only 3-4 work on your 30-40 million dollar job anyway. That is a fact.

We really shouldn't give a shit if engineering and/or architecture fees stay in Starkville when you're talking about a prominent building that will hopefully be done well enough to last decades. The benefit of keeping those fees in starkville is just too tiny compared to the importance of the project.

That said, I seriously doubt that how many employees the firms has any impact on the selection process, except that with more employees, that typically means there are going to be more projects with which to fill up a section demonstrating capabilities.

Both of those are true. Big bonus was an overstatement. Its a small bonus. The university stepped out on a limb with Dudy Noble and the firm they hired and by all accounts the design work is good.

These are some outstanding ideas. I have no input but I would love to see a rough outline on what you think would be good. Hell, maybe put something together and send it to Cohen. It might generate excitement and get the ball rolling.

Someone said we would be in the NW corner next year and they're moving the visiting team to the M Club building, to our current locker room. That seems a bit odd.

I believe I will try to get something in the works. I will try to get my hands on the as-builts on the expansion. Shouldn't be an issue.
I could build the entire stadium in Revit using the aerial view, close enough for government work I guess.

The locker room is being done in north end zone northwest corner. The current visitor locker room in north end zone is being redone into a larger recruiting lounge. The visitor locker room is being moved to the Old locker room in M club building. Change for this coming season.

Lord McBuckethead

Good idea. I think the most important aspect of any design is enclosing the south end zone for aesthetics as well as noise level. Even if no seating is added now, other than premium, it's still something to look into. Design it so considerable seating can be added when the need arises. Who knows ... they might like the ideas and you'll get the job.

We've talked about the need, or desire, to have ritzy locker rooms to impress the players and potential players. I guess times have changed to attract college athletes, but did anyone notice the locker areas at the new domed stadium in Minneapolis during the Super Bowl? They are very plain. I suppose the salaries paid put the appearance of a locker room far down on the list of priorities for professionals.

Lord McBuckethead

So how many seats would you add for season ticket holders down low, versus premium seating?
I would say around 8-10k or so.

Didn't the north expansion only add about 6000 seats to the capacity?

And another note ... why in the world, when they built the upper decks, didn't they make them symmetrical? A hundred years from now there may be a need to run the upper decks all the way around, like Tennessee. Of course, the stadium will be over 200 years old by then ... may have to just start over due to necessity at that point.

Already got a pretty good start on it. That one would probably add 20-25K to the capacity.

Lord McBuckethead

I would build the lower bowl around like that, but I would use the upper for luxury seating. the lower would add 10-12k. I would use the upper to define an aesthetic for the interior of the stadium.
Imagine the swamp without the orange wall that says the swamp on it. The south expansion and revision of the mclub could add an aesthetic that defines our stadium for the next 50 years. It could also be used to bring some of the exterior aesthetic into the stadium, which would also be a good idea.

I would add relatively little capacity. Have party decks/SRO areas in the corners, do skybox/club level seating, fill in with seating, but then convert enough existing seating between the 40's or 30's to keep the capacity increase relatively minor.

I'm a pessimist on what long term attendance will look like for college football and think we ultimately need to expand premium seating and keep overall capacity roughly the same or slightly higher.

Since DWS is built on sacred Indian burial ground why not have the Choctaw's convert the north end zone into a casino. At least it will keep everybody in the stadium after half time. **

The Swamp is one of the ugliest stadiums I've ever been in. I think a lot of that is the bright orange and blue colors that are not very pleasant to look at (Auburn's colors are better but the blue is dark, not bright), and part of it is the wall like you mentioned. Isn't there more than one orange wall also.

The only time I was there their video boards had a really distorted picture, and were quite small. I think they got new ones the following year.

Rumor I heard was bowling in south end zone similar to north with boxes and suites. Then adding actual chair seats to home side. Not sure how many sections and how many chair backs, but no real net gain in capacity, just a more comfortable seating area on home side for those who pay for them. Would be nice for those looking for a quality seat and also generate more money overall.

FWIW I sat in a cabana for EB and the experience was so so. Have Gridiron passes and would much rather gridiron than cabanas.

ETA. Instead of taking our seat spacing from 16 to 12 inches so we can keep up with other capacities, we are doing it the correct way as usual.
