Got a question for those who fish and those who eat crappie. I recently caught some and while cleaning them, I noticed that there were black strands running alone the backbone and out along the skeletal structure of some of the fish. These strands come off and stay in the flesh when you filet the meat or cook them whole. Anyone know what this is and is it ok to eat?

Catfish has black stands all the filets. In a spider web pattern kinda. Gotta look close. It's normal in catfish. Not sure if its the same thing.

I've caught and ate plenty of white perch in my day and I dont remember any noticeable black strands in any I ever caught.

Im not the kind of person who would look for that kind of thing though so.

You fry em up you should be good regardless hahahaha
