We are apparently bringing in some sort of field specialist to match the dirt to the turf.

And the reason for turf dirt is what?

Well atleast it won't be two different colors. Still not crazy about the idea.

Ya'll are crazy. Assuming they are able to match it, that brighter color will look much better and more professional than that dull grey dirt. Just look at the difference b/t the two dirt colors. It will look good.

If Cohen likes it, that is good enough for me.

No, it'll look fake and garish, just like every other place that has done this. I'm a huge Cohen supporter, and have been behind him since day one. But this carpet shit sucks. It sucked when they told us it was just the foul areas, and it sucks worse now that we find out it's also in the base lines.

I agree. Looks fake, and fake grass and dirt on a baseball field looks dumb to me

If Cohen thinks it will help us win, who cares how it looks?

He's already proven we can win without having a shitty looking field....so why change it? You may be able to pick up a chick wearing a dress, but does that mean you're going to start wearing a dress?

If he can match it, it will look ok, but I'll believe they can match it when I see it. Seems it would have been WAY easier to match the turf to our grass and dirt than vice versa, but what do I know.

I'm not freaking out over it or anything, but I still think it looks like shit, and I don't and never will like turf on a baseball field (in the field of play)

It may not cause a change in wins and losses, but a shitty looking field is still a shitty looking field IMO

All of Cohen's arguments could be used to turf the whole field.

Yep, and I sure as hell hope he isn't trying to model us after Vandy's baserunning. Not that Vandy is not a good one to model after, but because Vandy has real speed and coaches that know how to coach speed. We are not a good base running team and definitely have not had REAL speed, even in our Title run last year. We can have turf, and recruit faster players, etc...but if you still got Mingione over there belly flopping and sending runners at the wrong times, it doesn't matter. We have to start teaching guys like Demarcus Henderson how to properly read a pitcher and steal a base, and how to run the bases. That type of speed is being wasted so far without better teaching.

For the record, I'm the biggest Cohen fan, but baserunning is one of his few flaws....or his staff's.

I don't care if Cohen wants to replace the flag pole with a huge dildo......

That's probably the REAL reason why Cohen wanted the turf. So that Mingione can belly flop further away from the ball and slide away more quickly. He probably saw Tony Kemp's slide into third from the shortstop position and thought- "Hey, Butch did you see that? It would be pretty funny to watch Mingione do that in the third base box. And maybe then he would get the hell out of the way."

It could except for the fact that I think that having that turf at Vandy actually hurts them in the postseason when they go on the road- and that may mean Omaha.

I made this comment elsewhere, but will say it again. We may not care for it (I don't care for it, at all), but we WILL accept it. With the state of the baseball program what it is at present, John Cohen will get what he wants within reason and the administration will not deny him. It may not be a sparkling new $40 million park, but if he wants the field turf to wrap around his office and into the parking lot, he will get it. Kind of hard to argue with the man at this point.

The part I found interesting is him talking about the hitters being on turf when they swing for 99% of their swings. He's not just putting the turf on the baselines I'm pretty sure he's saying the entire home plate area is all turf. Or did y'all realize this and I'm just now realizing it. The entire batter's box is turf now.

What's shocking is that most of our fans don't know the difference between AstroTurf (1980 Superdome) and sprint turf (current fake grass).

Who said they don't know the difference? It doesn't matter what you put out there, if your field is just one big piece of turf, including the 'dirt' areas, it looks awful and becomes gimmicky. It also probably puts you at a disadvantage going to Omaha.

With that said, I don't think there's any doubt that's where we're headed. We're never going back to grass/dirt everywhere, and I'm sure they won't like the part turf, part grass/dirt for very long.

Not surprised as much as you ride Cohen. Kinda like that "dead horse" scenario.
