I've kinda sight fished from the bay boat. See a few fish and throw to them, throwing at wakes, etc... but most of my redfishing is blind casting. Same thing from the kayak. I just bout a 116qt rotomolded cooler that is 21 inches tall. The plan was to put it on the front of the boat for an elevated platform to do some true sight fishing. Most pre-fab casting platforms for your boat are either 18 or 30 inches so I'm on the low end. If you see those tower boats fishing the tournaments, those jokers are 6-10 feet in the air. I'm no geometry major so I'm curious just how much my line of sight will improve 21 inches elevated?

I’ve fished on a 75?(I know it was bigger than 65)qt on the bow of a bay boat and it improved my sight a little. The sight improvement was negated by my level of comfort stand on a cooler. Before I got my kayak I was planning on purchasing a large flat bottom with a tower to use strictly in marshes and for night gigging.

It will help, but ~2ft from a bay boat bow won't be as drastic as ~2ft from say a kayak or flat boat.

we use sight fishing for striped Marlin while we are trolling (not around here but in Cabo) ... when they rest they will be on the surface - look for the tail and dorsal fin sticking up out of the water then pitch a live herring to them.... Never really targeted Redfish and I always thought it would be a cool thing to do
