Heading back to Birmingham and coming through in about an hour. Where should I eat? Would like something, local, casual with beer....no chain restaurants.

Rooster's is my personal favorite. They're closed on Sundays. Brent's is good too- mainly open for lunch only though and not on Sunday either.

There is a new place called Fine and Dandy I haven't tried yet but it looks fancy.

Both are near County Line...not sure which way you're coming from.

Is Cherokee Inn still open? They used to have the best burger in Jackson.

Beattly Street is the best, but no beer, and they're probably closed now (if not you'd probably get shot in that part of town after dark).

Feathered Cow is closer to Flowood near the Kroger on Spillway/Old Fannin. There may be one Madison? I concur, it is good.

Cool Als off I55 is good and Majestic Burger in Ridgeland. Although a chain, Mug Shots is good. Brents is good, but I'd call to make sure they are open. Parlor Market downtown has a good burger and well as Iron Horse.

Don't stop anywhere in a bad part of Jackson! Use a designated driver, get a sixpack of PBR, 2 Whoppers for $6 at the Burger King drive thru, put on Ted Nugent and continue your road trip.**** God Bless and Hail State!

Used to love going to there back in the 80's and early 90's when I had NG duty up in Jackson.

Better yet, "Uneasy Rider" by Charlie Daniels. Stay way from the Dew Drop Inn, unless you're a faithful follower of Brother John Burch.

It moved from North State to the other side of I55 and a few miles south about 10 years ago or so, they WERE able to retain the strong urine smell in the new location (until it closed due to a playing of unlicensed music dispute).

Behr, really? I’ve had nothing but great experiences at the Feathered Cow. Burger is really good to me. Only thing they need to add to the menu to me is more finger food/appetizers. It’s set up great to watch football games as well. The owner was a manager at BWW for a long time and incorporated a little BwW feel to it but with better food.

Burgers N Blues is a good choice as well for beer drinking and watching games. Really good burgers. Used to have one called the Pearson burger that was the bomb. Swiss cheese mushrooms w gravy poured over it. Basically had to eat it w a fork.
