A little surprising considering the very average year he had, even had to ride the pine when facing southpaw’s the 2nd half of the season.

He has never hit lefties well... both the rangers and the sox know this and they play him accordingly. He does a lot of other things well... helluva first baseman defensively, he runs the bases well, he gets on base, and when he does get hits it is often extra base hits. Its not really that surprising at all if you've followed his career.
