View Full Version : MSU vs UT, It's pretty damn amazing

Jeremy Pruitt just turned down $5M a year to be the HC at UT and the sticking point was he wanted to coach the playoffs. I feel pretty comfortable saying he was the first person MSU interviewed to replace Mullen and we all know what happened. His camp leaked that he had accepted the job. His camp wanted to scare off other potential candidates because he wanted the MSU job badly. Now I've listened to the media and talking heads who have said that UT is hands down the better job but when you consider that a shared candidate was willing to do whatever it took to get the MSU job while dictating his terms to the point of turning down the Vols, it's pretty clear which situation is better. I'm not saying historically and I'm not talking resources but it's pretty clear that today, MSU is a more desirable job than UT and there is no more clear evidence than Jeremy Pruitt.

They should have given him the time to coach the playoffs. UT will not have a quality coach before january 12th.

Great post Beast.

MSU is a great job because it doesn't require a rebuild. It's also what makes Don wanting the Tennessee job before Florida called all the more odd.

Don's decision making lacked sense.

How would you like to have Fulmer for a boss too? Stabs Johnny Majors in the back to get the HC gig; spends years undermining hires trying to get the AD job - he will throw any HC under the bus to save his job I bet.

I'd still be hard pressed to turn down $5M to coach in the playoffs, but to each their own.

To be fair if we had offered him I'm not sure we would have allowed him to coach in the playoffs either with the December signing date

lol I agree. I been thinking about this, which program sucks the worst right now, unm or ut? I think unm still has the edge in suckiness right now.

We better not have let any coach do that.. It doesn't make sense anymore with the early signing day.

I would imagine Fulmer as the AD would be similar to Jerry Jones as the owner/general manager.

Can you refer to it as a "scandal" when the reality was that some Bama booster did in fact pay for Means???

Phil may be a snake that ratted you out, but it doesn't change the fact that Means had his hand out and one of your flock decided to fill it...

(Full disclosure - I despise Phat Phil)

I never said Bammer "didn't cheat"... But Means never got a dime from UA (his HS coaches kept the loot)...

My issue was using a rival coach's "secret" testimony in conjunction with the FBI... several schools paid for that kid's services...

regardless, we deserved to get hammered....

I think he made an all-conference team his SR year at Memphis, but he never "panned out" and was always overweight...

I don't think he got drafted or played in the NFL, but I didn't look it up....

from what I remember, y'all had a pretty rogue big money guy living in Mempho at the time and the h.s. coach was the one who took money. (not sure what he did with it)

there was some UT internet bad ass that exposed it if I recall.

at any rate, that shit sent bamer football back quite a bit if I recall. they musta hammered y'all's ass pretty bad.

Logan Young was the UA booster... He ended up dead after falling up some stairs...

The internet guy you mentioned was a UT Booster (Roy Adams) that kinda played a "Rosebowl" character... Gary Parrish's claim to fame was breaking the story...

Pre appeal sanctions approached the DP and included ~30 scholarships...

FWIW I think that tweet about Pruitt turning down $5M a year because Tennessee didn’t wanna let him coach the playoffs is from a (very well done) fake twitter source.

I found that suspect... I think if JP wanted to be a HC at MSU/UT, he would be... (regardless of the CFP)...

I think he may have been holding out for a shot at the FSU gig... (jmho)

Great perspective as always beast. It?s glaringly obvious but nobody cares to admit it or recognize it. State has passed a lot of programs in the SEC and right now State > Tennessee.

Well, looks likes Pruitt will actually accept the job now.

It will be interesting to compare the job that Pruitt does vs Moorhead to see if Cohen got it right.

Of note, Pruitt being in the East will be another thorn in Don’s side.

I don’t know if Pruitt can coach a lick of offense or knows how to hire an offensive guy, but he should be able to recruit.

Pruitt may be great, but my issue is that Tennessee has the same issues as us. They are the number 3 recruiter in their division and have Bama on the schedule each year. By hiring Pruitt, they’ve made the decision to try and out Alabama & Georgia; Alabama & Georgia and they won’t ever have more talent than those guys.

To win with less talent, you’ve got have an offensive guy that can put up points with less talent.

Showed up for his deposition in the Cottrell lawsuit wearing a business suit, a coonskin cap with the tail, and carrying a bottle of bourbon.

He was nuts. Rich, but nuts.

And admittedly paid for a ton of players at many different schools. He would have them bought and if Tenn. didn't want them, he'd send them to someone else.

Yep.... word was “he really liked those young men”, too.
