hiring assistants? We know that he was reportedly hard to work for and that might be because he is arrogant. I always wondered about his coaching connections. About half of the time when we were trying to hire a D.C., I swear he was reading the message boards for candidates. Did he have a hard time because we don?t pay as much as some other sec schools? What was it?

I dont think Donnys rolodex was very deep. His circle of guys he has worked with was very incestuous, same group from BG to Utah to UF.

Remember, Ole Donnie Two Gloves only does his hiring at the coaches meeting in January. Sets up a booth in the exhibit hall and hands out Tim Tebow autographed head shots as recruiting gifts.

Maybe he only wanted Swingers.

Does not seem to be having trouble keeping his assistants now

He was hard to work for because he knows everything and loved to meddle. Whoever gave Cohen the meddler title meant to give it to Danny Two Gloves

He doesn't have a full staff at Florida.

Excluding Grantham, do you want Hev and Gonzo back?

Let me get back with you after we hire their replacements. I was one of the few that liked hev. I do not think he is irreplaceable though

Murlenzo is an egotistical jackass. He keeps Hev and Gonzo around to pump his ego up like viagra. He knows good and damn well Hev and Gonzo are not worth much as coaches or recruiters.

The same reason he couldn?t land one of those early jobs he shopped himself for or land any big name recruits we weren?t already their #1. His Yankee dick ?I invented football? attitude rubbed most people the wrong way. As much good as he did, he did as much that limited his ceiling.

Yep. Dan's recruiting and his arrogant play the upperclassmen over the more talented underclassmen in certain cases is the main reason why he didn't win top 25 games at a clip that was more close to Jackie.

This is true, but the main reason he lost big games is he's clueless on how to use a rb. People forget 4 of his last 6 years featured Holloway & Perkins. His 3 best teams featured Ballard in 2009, Jrob in 2014, Aeris in 2017. Even the games we lost in 2009, 2014, 2017 were when he went away from his stud RBs.

Exactly. And it was pretty obvious that he defaulted to the QB run- usually up the middle- any time he got into a stressful situation where he needed to make a big play.

I'm dreaming of a day when we keep a DC for more than one year. I've forgotten what that feels like.

Boobie was 2009. Vic was 2010.

I think he was referring to the 2009 LSU game where Tyson Lee kept the ball instead of giving it to Boobie.

As much good as he did with the program, he always seemed to call the wrong offensive plays and not play to our strengths in crucial situations late in games against (top 25) teams. His record bears this out.

The best things he did in my opinion was get us to where we went to bowl games every year and he limited the amount of embarrassing losses we had. I can tolerate one South Alabama loss every 10 years.

One thing that really got me this year was all the yards we potentially left on the field by fair catching punts. Gray had to have fair catch 80% of them, then Myles the same thing, then Thomas finally got out there and returned a few. After he ran one back for a TD, next game he was fair catching everything. Then on senior night Myles still couldn’t hardly play so he put him back there to fair catch every punt. Why in the hell after Deddrick Thomas returned one for TD did we revert back to fair catching everything? Why did we fair catch most all of them all year anyway? Sometimes you gotta let your players play.

With the number of WR injuries we had, I don?t think Dan wanted to risk getting someone hurt on a PR. Although, we?ve always fair caught a lot under Dan.

Myles was still hurt and couldn?t run (my theory). Dan put him back there as a Senior reward. I don?t think he played a regular down against OM.
