View Full Version : My Early Sanctions Day Thoughts

I had a birthday the other day and I had a party. One of friends is an Ole Miss fan and she was bragging about the Egg Bowl win. I told her to have fun while on probation. She looked at me and said "What are you talking about?" And she was being serious. And while yes, this was a girl and a lot of them don't keep up with football and while others do- for context this girl has a family that has a weekend house within walking distance of Vaught Hemingway. She goes to all of the home football games. So, she's slightly more than a casual fan. I would imagine that female MSU football fans with her level of fandom would know if we were under NCAA investigation. She didn't. And it absolutely blew my mind. They just bury and spin the truth and totally dismiss what they don't want to hear or like. I told her very briefly about the Ole Miss sanctions and she was shocked. She's lucky- I gave her a heads up. I suspect most of their fans won't be.

If the roles were reversed, MSU would have handled this totally differently. I am confident there would have only been one NOA because we would not have defiantly fought the NCAA tooth and nail the whole way. We would have fired our head coach immediately- like we pretty much did with Jackie. Had Freeze not gotten caught with an escort, there is no question in my mind he would still be their coach- until tomorrow at least. MSU and our fan site reporters would have been honest and I think if the roles were reversed, we would have been absolutely pissed off. That's probably a good thing to be pissed off about too. It would be embarrassing for MSU and everyone that represents it. I'm glad I'm on the MSU side of this no matter how light or harsh the sanctions are.

My attitude towards the sanctions is to pretty much keep the bar low. Expect the penalties to be on the low end. If you're expecting the death penalty- you're not going to be happy even if the sanctions are actually crippling in reality. I don't know what the penalties will be and I have no idea what the NCAA will do. I don't think anyone really and truly does either- at least not until around lunch time.

Whatever happens- Ole Miss is going to be in a disadvantaged situation. Probation is not a good thing. They can spin it as "overcoming adversity"- which is ridiculous and would piss me off if I was the NCAA to be honest with you. That would be like me robbing a bank and getting a light sentence and some lucky breaks along the way and calling it "overcoming adversity". What we have to do is take advantage of what they are going through. As much as it is fun to bag on Don right now- he did leave us in pretty good shape. We'll know more in a week but it looks like Moorhead is doing the right things (or is at least saying them) at this point to help us take things to the next level. A coach that wants to be here and make a name for himself is going to re-energize MSU. He's already added a running back coach that is considered one of the best in the country and Looney will stay on and is an excellent recruiter as well. It appears as if the recruiting front office- Peterson, Austin, Gibson, Bowen and etc. will stay intact and there's talk of bringing Tony Hughes back in some capacity. So, recruiting looks pretty good right now. If Mo adds in a great DC it's game on. The biggest thing we need to do is keep having major success and winning at least 8 games a year and we need to win the Egg Bowl the next few years. That's what is going to put Ole Miss away for awhile. That's what we didn't do in the mid 90's. We don't go 3-8 and lose to Ole Miss and Northeast Louisiana in 1995- who knows? Maybe Deuce McAllister goes to MSU. That happens then Ole Miss is a lot worse in the late 1990's and then Eli came along. There was definately a degree of luck involved with Ole Miss at that time as well too.

And speaking of Deuce- I don't expect Ole Miss to stop cheating and neither should you. It's engrained in their DNA and I think they actually enjoy it. It's not enough to join the booster club- they want to hang out with the team. They have a major culture problem that I think it too far gone. I don't even think the death penalty would fix it. Slow it down- yes. Stop it? No. Their Network might get them a Sugar Bowl once every 10 years if things go their way- but then they are going to be flaming pile of crap the rest of the time. They are not willing to even try to build a program the right way- even though their way probably results in more long term damage than a bad coach.

So, my friends IT is not only coming....IT is here.

And IT is not us. Hail State!

My early morning thoughts are just like my mid and late morning thoughts, GO STRAIGHT TO HELL YOU CHEATERS!! Couldn’t win the EB withought cheating! Can’t win shit without cheating! Cheaters gonna cheat it’s all they know how to do. Your done cheaters up north, well done, crispy, burnt, cauterized and still bleeding! It’s over, and I hope you never get up from it.

The CHEATING HAS NOT STOPPED!!!
Even with the NCAA camped in their house CHEATING did not stop nor has it.... (2017 signing period)
Today is just the beginning of what is still to come...

In one article the release of the Third Student Athlete Name is listed... He plays for Auburn.... I am beyond furious that LL, KJ and this kids name's were released in violation of FERPA laws... SINCE this was a GODFREY article (article was published yesterday) -- I am going to guess that Godfrey is the one who released the names to begin with.....
So how the crap did Godfrey get these names????

Cheaters are going to cheat, it has been going on since the 60's according to one OM alum. This is embarrassing for that school, the leadership, which is non existent, the coaches, staff and team. I am so sorry but the students knew what they were getting into... many excepted those illegal benefits.....

This is something to think about for sure.... They all 3 (Om media) may be bought and paid for by The Network but all just put their names and their employers bank account on the line. If this isn't all true the Green family will walk to the bank on a libel suit

Let the hammer fall.....

I know a few People that follow OM very closely. They are pissed about the whole situation. One of them didn’t buy season tickets this year. Neither is happy about Luke being named coach.

I know another OM family that I would say are more casual fans. From the father (60s) to his adult kids, they all believe the Godfrey narrative that State is the one doing the cheating and lied about receiving payments from OM too. OM is just a victim of the MSU and the NCAAs witch hunt. They really believe this.

And now Godfrey released the 3rd SA's name... What the heck is going on? We did not report them..... Our students just cooperated.. So OM needs to place the blame where it should be ON themselves for cheating.... Remember God don't like ugly... and OM, your mess is ugly....

If the sanctions are truly what the rebel faithful are so confidently predicting - aka self-imposed plus maybe a few more schollies, maybe a few vacated wins, and minimal show causes and probation - then today is the day that the NCAA should just dissolve itself.

I fully expect to be disappointed in the scope and the severity of the penalties.

I have no confidence in the NCAA to handle it correctly. They’ll probably go tough on Barney and Freeze, but rather easy on OM. We’ll see.

I have no idea if he'll turn out to be a good coach or not, but hiring Luke was basically throwing the middle finger at the NCAA and saying "we're not changing crap". The culture that got them here is the one he was trained in - it's all he knows. They didn't go hire Straight Arrow Generro.

Not only that, but McGriff was a big part of the 2013 class and was lead recruiter for Treadwell.

30+ scholarship loses- at least two per level one violation (15).
3 year bowl ban.
show causes for all of the coaches and administrators involved.
loss of official visits.
huge fine.
all players allowed to transfer to other schools and not count against 25 or 85 man limits.

From two different points of view, whatever the sanctions are, they won't be onerous enough. The first point of view is personal. I will probably be disappointed with a two year death penalty. It could have been four. The second point is the one that is important. No matter how severe the penalties are, the won't be severe enough to make them stop cheating.

As long as they have a football program they will cheat. They didn’t stop the last time, and at the time that was one of the most severe hits the NCAA had ever dealt out other than SMU.

I expect the NCAA to deliver the sports equivalent of the Steinle verdict.
