Twice, in 2007 and 2008, English was the nominee by Michigan and Louisville, respectively, for the Broyles Award given annually to the FBS? top assistant football coach. In 2006, Rivals.com named him its National Defensive Coordinator of the Year and one of the nation?s top-25 college recruiters.

English was an assistant coach at the University of Michigan from 2003 through 2007. Four of those five Wolverine teams finished in the top-25 in scoring defense. Three were in the top-25 in total defense and pass defense efficiency. The 2006 Michigan squad was the national leader in rushing defense.
