Final agreement will be hammered out in Jan/Feb. Joe Moor signed a Memo of understanding. Contains 'big rocks' .. something like ~$13.5M, 4 years. Fine print will be negotiated later.

Cohen did say he took less to get a bigger budget for his assistant coaches.

That's awesome news, and shows hes committed to winning.

He just said that again this morning on Bo's show.

Sometimes those numbers don't really register unless you really think about it. For instance, I just got a new house this year. After taxes, I could pay off my 30 year mortgage in 2 months at that salary, and still have roughly $100k left over. Lol

We lowballed the hell out of that sounds like. Geesh I expected at least 3 a year.

I wonder if that includes performance bonuses. I could see him getting at least another $300k just by getting to a bowl game and maybe beating Ole Miss.

That's a little surprising....

That'd have to make him one of, if not the lowest paid coaches in the SEC, right?

Think he said he was willing to take a lower contract for himself and use some of the money to get some great assistants

I get that, but he could still make 3+ with incentives and we'd still have a ton of money left for assistants. With such a low pay, we better be able to throw a shit ton of money at an OC an DC.

If he hires good assistants it will quickly lead to way more money down the line. Plus I am sure he has some nice performance bonuses.

Really really low. Hopefully we have some clauses to prevent him from being poached by Pom Poms. Oh wait PomPons won?t be there much longer. Hopefully we have him locked up for a while. I have a feeling 2018 is going to have many teams looking a the shiny new toy we found on the bargain aisle.

Me too. I had posted $3 to $3.5 million yesterday was what I guessed.

Wonder if we have a very large buyout the first year or two.

Brown, the DC at Michigan currently makes $1.4 million and he was contacted, but wanted to stay with Harbaugh.. So I would say Cohen and Moorhead's goal are to get the best they can on a staff.

We can give him a raise at any time, and this gives us plenty of room to do that.

Unlike OM, we didn't just pay an insane amount for the purpose of looking good. We got the guy we wanted and paid what it took. That's how it's done.

I wonder if Brown comes back into play if rumors of Harbaugh to Chicago Bears happens.

Smart business decision and they are a great steward over MSU's funds.

Thank you for posting this!!!

The same people who complain that coaches are overpaid are the same ones bitching we "low-balled".

I want a coach who thinks of others and what is best for the program, not someone like Lateral Move who keeps every nickel for himself then cries uncle and whines when he needs to give his assistants a raise!

THIS and not letting some coaches slack off or have preferential treatment ( Hev and Gonzo as an example) because they are his friends like the guy who may get lost in the Foley/ Spurrier Swamp or get attacked by Gators did.

I imagine if he proves himself next year then we probably rip up this one and give him a new one.

With those incentives, hope his total ends up being $5.25 million next year!!! A Natty is sure to kick in those coaching award incentives!!
