Either exactly what they expected, or moving on to plan B or C

But Plan A may still be in play....

Well I'm glad Brown is staying with us, but I wouldn't have worried all too much since Michigan could have picked up another DC quickly. However, Brown would have been a tremendous haul for state. I'm certain though that a very quality DC, not named Sirmon, will be picked up by Moorehead

I believe he is referring to Don Brown is staying at Michigan. I don't know anything about it but this is just my interpretation of his post.

We all forget that as a DC, English was the Rivals DC of the Year in 2006 at Michigan. Guy can coach.

Why would Pruitt would leave Bama for MSU. Same as Brown leaving Michigan. Brown would make even less sense.

Is Grantham still employed by Mississippi State? He still has State on his Twitter which I realize doesn't necessarily mean anything. I assume if he's not on Florida's payroll he still has an office in the football facility.
I say all this to say that if he is telling recruits he is going to Florida and getting them to decommit shouldn't someone tell him to get his shit and leave? I know Grantham's kid plays in the state championship game Friday and he probably doesn't want anything to interfere with his son enjoying that moment so what is the chance that it is Mullen out there telling recruits that Grantham is coming to Florida and Grantham isn't the one saying it?

Yea but he's been around awhile and Merlins never considered promoting him. Maybe we need to look at Scott Shafer - MTSU.....he was a great DC at Syracuse but failed as a head coach

What about Vic Koenning at Troy?

We should be looking at Pete Golding from UT San Antonio. He?s got there D ranked 7th in the nation, setting all kinds of school records. He?s from LA, Delta state grad, coached at delta state and southern miss. Very impressive resume!

I would really like for us to stay with a 3-4 scheme DC.
Let?s be honest, for our recruiting area we can find some really great OLB type players for that defense. And we can usually find at least one or two QUALITY interior DLs each year. It just makes sense for us to seek out the best option

Can't blame Grantham for leaving like I do Mullen. Florida probably gave him a huge raise just to get him away from us. Don't know anything about Brown at Michigan, but there would have to be some really good reasons for him to leave Michigan for MSU. It's not exactly a lateral move like the Florida job is. ;)

That would be overpaying if you look at his market value. But he would be worth more to us than anybody else simply because we are set up to win next year and he would solidify the defensive side of the ball and provide some continuity.

He's worth a lot of Florida because not everybody likes working with Mullen and that also potentially helps them next year when they come to starkville.

Prediction? Pain.
11-29-2017, 02:22 PM
Assuming that Grantham isn't in play, I'm really interested in Moorhead's DC choice. Cohen made a point to say that he was impressed with Moorhead's defensive philosophy. If he goes for an existing DC that he's coached with or against, I'm guessing that person would probably be in the AAC or another mid-tier east-coast league, right? (I'm not sure what quality DC in the Big 10 would be in play.) If he goes with someone successful but unfamiliar from the South, I wonder if he gives looks to Nate Woody at App St (who also happens to run the 3-4, I believe), the hyper aggressive dude at Arkansas State, the Mississippi guy at UTSA that someone mentioned earlier in the thread, or Vic Koenning at Troy (notwithstanding his craptacular last year at North Carolina a few years back).

Who is Lance Thompson. I googled and found an Australian soccer player, and football folks of that name at Alabama, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

I posted this in the other DC thread also:

What about Rich Wright, head coach of Northwest Missouri State? This is his first year as HC, although doubles as DC, a position he's held since 2011. Number One D2 defense in 2017 allowing 212 ypg. Won D2 National Championship 2013, 2015, 2016.

I do not know what kind of scheme he runs.

ETA: Have allowed only 13 TD this season through 12 games

Dang, why would he have not hung around for 1.8 mil if he really didn't want to have to move his son?

BTW, he is originally from Hammond, LA not MS. We can do much better than this young man IMO. Would make an excellent position coach
