Any word on whether we had to fend off UT or was that just smoke?

Considering that the word on the street was that he was interested in our job if it came open, I'll bet he took a look at the personnel at each school and made his choice based on who had better players. Maybe we had to raise the salary a few hundred k, but it'll be worth it if true.

Welcome to the board, coach Pruitt!

why wait until tomorrow if true? Why not announce today and get moving on a staff?

Hammering out final details of contract and calling his friends to come on over I'd assume.

Sub 48 hour turnaround from officially losing Dan to making a great hire has to be a record in CFB.

Only thing I know about Friend is that his resume is outstanding. Top 15 offense nationally this year, Top 25 last year, and one of the best offensive line coaches in the country. Unless I'm missing something, he'd be a big get.

I have no idea if there's a realistic possibility of keeping Grantham, but if so, that'd be awesome, especially paired with a Napier/Friend-led offense.

No his offense wasn't lights out this year but neither was Chip Lindsey's the year before at ASU. Napier had a top 40 offense in yards & scoring while being top 5 in red zone offense. Lindsey offense was the 81st offense in 2016 at ASU. Also he was 29 when he took the Clemson OC job & yes it ended bad but the year before he led them to the best offense in Clemson history up to that point.

They actually did better in conference only games, 4th in the PAC 12 in scoring. That was a positive and a little better than Lindsey last year. All the while having the cloud of being dismissed hanging over them the last half of the season at least.

For all the hoopla about "Dan the Offensive Genius" we never were ranked all that high.

Mullen's offenses were up and down in his nine years at State. 2014 was obviously a high point (8th nationally in offensive S&P+ ranking), and 2015 was, overall, pretty good as well (top 20 nationally in offensive S&P+). But in numerous other years, the offense was pedestrian.

As for Napier, this year's ASU offense is a bit of mixed bag, but probably performed a little better than our 2017 offense in context. Higher S&P+ ranking (ASU's offense - 38, State's offense - 65), and better in-conference stats for scoring offense (ASU 4th, MSU 7th), 3rd Down Conversion rate (ASU 2nd, MSU 3rd), yards per play (ASU 7th, MSU 13th), and Red Zone TD% (ASU 2nd, MSU 8th). ASU's offensive line didn't play as well as ours (in either sacks allowed or TFLs allowed), though interestingly they dominated their conference in time of possession, just like MSU did.

It's not apples-to-apples, though. I'd like to see an analysis of the defenses that each team faced. I doubt ASU saw anything like the Georgia, Auburn, Alabama defensive gauntlet.

It's not apples-to-apples, though. I'd like to see an analysis of the defenses that each team faced. I doubt ASU saw anything like the Georgia, Auburn, Alabama defensive gauntlet.

Yeah, it's definitely hard to compare teams' stats when they're in different conferences. But that's why I used stats for conference games only, which should hopefully at least somewhat show how each offense performed against like-talented teams. So yeah, maybe ASU's offense wouldn't have been so good on third downs or in the red zone if it was facing SEC defenses. But that's not fair either, because ASU's offense is stocked with PAC 12 talent, not SEC talent.

I'm not saying that ASU's 2017 offense was a national juggernaut in comparison to MSU's, but only that in the context of their respective conferences, ASU's offense this year seems to have been a little better than MSU's.

It's a rivalry game and if you think they aren't still pissed and aren't gonna turn the Egg Bowl into a war ever year, you're mistaken. We have to bring intensity to that game and I want a coach that's gonna treat it like a rivlary game.

I guess you're right. I probably do hold a grudge too long. It just kinda' pissed me off when I went to the State-Alabama game in '97 and they had Will Friend's picture on the front page of the program. They did it because they knew he had chosen them instead of us. BTW, I still hold a grudge against Dick Pace for his PI call in the '81 Egg Bowl. It's hard for me to forget things like that.

It's a rivalry game and if you think they aren't still pissed and aren't gonna turn the Egg Bowl into a war ever year, you're mistaken. We have to bring intensity to that game and I want a coach that's gonna treat it like a rivlary game.

ETA After what I watched them do Thursday night, we better not *****foot around them.

We were all told Mullen wasn’t leaving because he was set to sign an extension and a raise, along with Grantham, Sunday. Instead everybody woke up to his buddy Pete hinting that he’ll be Florida’s head coach by the end of the day.

Pac 12 isn't Big 12 bad on defense though- I'd put them at tied for third with the ACC. Plus, he had less talent out there than what we have, so it should be a wash.

No chance - if OSU beats Wisky - Bama is in the playoffs.

Winner of UGA/AU game is getting in.

Clemson is in if they beat Miami.

OU is in if they keep winning.

The best way for us to get Pruitt by next week is if AU wins, Clemson Wins, OU wins and Wisky wins. That is what needs to happen. If it does, Bama goes to Sugar Bowl, we get Pruitt full time, and Mullen can start focusing on 4-5 star kids in Florida that he can lose out to FSU and Miami just as he did here. Sorry, not sorry.

Bama isn't getting in unless Oklahoma loses. Big 10 champ will make it.

Ohio state would have 2 wins over top 10 teams and a win over a top 15 team... also a conference champ

Bama has 2 wins vs top 20 teams... if we stay top 20.

Let's say Auburn beats Georgia. How do you justify bama over Georgia? Georgia has a better win and lost to the same team
