There is no reason for us to meltdown as a fanbase. If Mullen was going to leave (and, with the benefit of hindsight, it seems like he always was going to), this is a good time for us to be able to make our next hire.

1) We have a great squad coming back. This has been repeated in the media and on here, and shouldn't be overlooked. Our next coach will not have to re-build. Momentum is on our side.

2) Mullen has proven that you can win here.

3) Our willingness to pay Mullen will help us out in the job market. Over the last week, we've constantly repeated the rumor re: Seal's gift to be able to match any salary offer. We pay like a top 25 job, and from the sound of it, we were willing to pay Mullen somewhere in the top 5-10 range this offseason.

4) OM is in shambles, and there is no light at the end of the tunnel up there with the investigation hanging over us. Mullen's success in recruiting the 18 and 19 classes clearly show the coaching market that State is a different job than it was 5 years ago, and that can clearly be traced back to OM's downfall.

5) Arkansas and TAMU aren't in a good place now either. The West is in a downturn right now.

Mullen (and the rest of the MSU community) worked hard and turned this into a good job. Cohen made a good hire in baseball, and he will make a good hire in football. We will be alright.

For sure, but that was the last gasp of a program going into hibernation.
