WHAT say you? I like his pedigree. MS and LA experience. NFL experience. Big numbers at Okie State.

Nope. Charlie Strong would be pretty high on my list along with the other notable names.

You beat me to it...I'd go after him. If we could possibly keep grantham to go with him we could keep rollin

And 3rd most prolific offense in bucs history last year.

Do it.

I know Todd a little. Extremely sharp guy. Knows qbs, wrs and offense. Aggressive play caller and he would fix our wr problems. Rebuilt usm from a complete pile of garbage to respectability in only 2 years.

I like it. Only if we keep grantham tho.

Chip Lindsey was the coach making Monken look good.

I saw someone else mention his name. He should be considered.

I?m on the fence. Beneficial to have someone who already knows the state. I like his OC bonafides and NFL exp. The real thing is I want stability - the job search BS is old

Exactly right. I'd rather hire Chip vs. Monken.

I’d puke.

Monken struggled at USM. He had to turn the offense over to Lindsey, who is OC at AU now. Monken also had issues with the poontang.

Monken is better than some of the names bandied about so far.

I've heard Monken hates recruiting but not sure that makes him much different than Mullen.

Why not get Chip Lindsey then? I love Auburns offense and we would be hellacious running it

Didn't Monken basically recruit nothing but JUCO players the year before they had a decent season under him? He's done nothing to show he can maintain a program.

Monken turned around a putrid USM program in 3 years with zero talent and zero help recruiting.

Monken would be an..................underwhelming hire. Look for something like Mullen, an up and coming coordinator from a major program.

Hack - Monken sucked until Chip got there. He didn't even know the spread offense. He was taught the spread offense right before going to USM.

He won a total of 4 games in 2 years calling the plays! Once Chip started calling plays, they went from 3-9 to 9-5.

2013 Southern Miss 1–11 1–7 T–5th (East)
2014 Southern Miss 3–9 1–7 6th (West)
2015 Southern Miss 9–5 7–1 1st (West) L Heart of Dallas

If you are really hearing Monken is in play then we're going to be pissed with the results. If we settle on Monken, Id rather take my chances on either Chip Lindsey or Kendal Briles.

Head coach found a way to win by turning over play calling? I’m ok with that. Sounds very un-Dan of him. And his offense was just fine at OSU and Tampa. Record breaking in fact.

Failed at USM. Everyone fails at USM. He’s a good coach.

USM fan here.

His 13-25 record is deceiving. He inherited a program that was absolute shit. There were games in his first year where we were playing with less than 60 scholarship players due to roster turnover and mismanagement under Ellis Johnson. That's insane for an FBS program. By year 3, he had us competing for conference championships and playing somewhat competitively against power conference schools like State, Nebraska, and Washington. He did load up on JUCOs, but that was the only way for him to get USM back to having a roster halfway worth a damn. He wasn't going to recruit JUCOs forever.

It is true that he isn't a big recruiting guy and he also doesn't like having to deal with donors and all the drama that goes on with that. I do think he prefers pro over college and that his ultimate goal is to be an NFL HC.

All that being said, Mississippi State could do far, far worse than Todd Monken. He's a brilliant offensive mind. Get a competent DC and you guys wouldn't miss a beat.
