I don't follow the smaller colleges as far as player performace but it's been almost 10 years years since a non D1 player won.

Also I don't think a SWAC player has never won it.

Alcorn has a good running back but they lost to Jackson State today so had that not happened he could have been a darkhorse candidate.

USM is having a good year so maybe it will be someone like Ito Smith who seems to be doing pretty well although I haven't looked at his stats.
