Saw his name mentioned and thought I'd share his minor league stats in the gulf coast league.

.207 avg 2 hr's 14 rbi's 24 bb 36 k's .313 obp .272 slg

Baseball guys are these stats normal for a young hitter? They seem pretty mediocre

Doesn't surprise me. Cord has a lot of the needed physical tools but he was, for the most part, a mediocre high school baseball player. I'll be very surprised if he ever even sees AAA much less the majors but apparently baseball is his first love so I guess you can't blame the kid for giving it a shot given the money he pocketed.

I wouldn't write him off this early, however, next year will be telling. Tons of guys struggle their first time out in pro ball. However, he will go to instructional league this fall, have an off season to fix things, and then attend spring training. He doesn't have to hit .300 next year, but if he doesn't show meaningful improvement, then confidence factors and other things will begin to pile up.

definitely not a red flag. lots of 18 year olds struggle in rookie and low-A ball and turn out just fine because they haven't had much work with professional caliber coaches. now if next season looks similar you might start to worry, but this will be his first offseason to spend working with the phillies system to learn and develop his game.

1. Read the comments he and his parents made after the fact.
2. IF we sign Staley and Fitz we have plenty of depth.

So... by riding the fence I am stupid Goat?

This is possible. I hope he does well, but from what little I've seen (and it is very little), he's not a baseball player.

What are the rules on this? Concerning the letter of intent he's signed with us.

Different sport so it doesn't mean shit for his football eligibility.

he hasnt entered college yet- so his clock hasnt started. Once you enter college, your clock starts in all sports. But you might redshirt in one sport but not in another- so you could be a Jr in football but a R-Soph in baseball or something like that.

Yeah -- I don't want him to show up either**

Cord was ready-made to run our offense perfectly on an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT level from day 1. Had he shown up, he would be in the QB controversy right now. Let us remember what he did against some of the best highschool competition in the country...

He got college paid for by the Phillies too. So, when/if he comes back, he probably won't even count against our 85...
