Florida 2005? I don’t recall us getting them ever under Dan due to security.

Security is very stiff after our games end. I think it was Florida tho

We can do it. They can't keep 20 K people off the field.

I don't even remember it happening at the Florida game. Was that the 3rd and 67 that has now been superseded by 4th and 95?

The last one I remember was Alabama in '96.

Trust me...you aren't getting on the field. I know a couple of people in security and in PD that will make sure you don't touch the field.

I was on the field in the south end zone with my oldest son when we tore em down after beating arky in ?98. Almost got hit in the head with an upright when it came down. I still have Maroon and White painted grass and dirt we dug up out of that end zone! Great memory!

They have collapsible posts now. They can be lowered very quickly if it looks like the crowd will storm the field. The days of fans tearing down the goal posts are, sadly, pretty much gone.

Maybe after Arkansas ?98? I know I was at a game between Bama ?96 and the end of ?98 where they came down again.

I helped tear down the goal posts in 98 Arkansas, 99 Egg Bowl, and 2000 UF. Sadly those days are gone. I don’t know if it could be done now since the posts can come down before people can get on the field.

I think they call that gas.

Sorry.

Don't know about tearing down goalposts, but apparently the Big 10 still lets fans on the field. At least they did the Iowa game on Saturday.

We are safety(ing) our way into complete worthlessness.

Florida was the last one I knew about and I do believe it's the last one that's happened. I still have two pieces of that goal post.

It is sort of surprising that we never have rushed the field under Dan. Auburn 2014 and A&M 2016 may have warranted it. I guess it's the heightened security presence.

SEC has pretty hefty fines for it too, and I think we're the only conference that has a rule against it. ETA: Looks like the Pac12 instituted a similar rule this year.

What's "tearing down a goalpost" mean?

I hope our fans are better then that. I remember this board making fun of Ole Miss when they did it.

On the 2004 Florida TV broadcast there were students running all over the field, several trying to take the goal posts down, and then you see one college kid walking slowly by the fence, not even heading towards the field...and security tackled him hard and knocked him into the fence. They really nailed him.

THe goal posts are collapsible now. They will have them down before anyone can get to them.

Was this the game of Jack Cristil's quote "If they call a celebration penalty I'll shoot'em!" ?

Tearing down the goalpost & rushing the field I want to be past that. We're a top 15 team I don't want our fans to feel like it was some impossible feat beating Bama. Celebrate like hell? Yes but no rushing the field.

Having stormed the field - I disagree. It needs to be reserved for monumental achievements. '96 was monumental because 1) we sucked; 2) they didn't; 3) it had been 16 years. '98 Arkansas was monumental because we clinched the West. I was really surprised we didn't do after '14 AU. It would have been boarder line to do it - it was a huge moment. Bama this year is not the time. If Bama was a 2x defending NC riding a 25+ game winning streak, and we won and took a lead in the West - that would be big enough to do it.

I agree. You don't tear down goalposts (which is a moot point anyway s people have pointed out) because you beat #2 when you're ~#15(?). I understand the aura of Saban and his recent Bama teams. But if it weren't for the fact taht we are a very weird team as far as matchups because of our weakness at WR, I would not view a 15 beating a number 2 as some hard to believe upset.

One of my biggest regrets as a MSU fan. I was a SO in high school and had a chance to go with my school's FCA group to the game. I had set through the Maine game and just couldn't make myself go back, especially against a ranked Florida team. I remember watching at home wishing I was there.

We tore them down in 2004. I still have a piece of the goalpost. Also came down in the 99 egg bowl.
