It?s been a long time since SMU took the death penalty and they never have recovered. Many people have speculated that SMU?s long lack of Recovery had more to do with the dissolution of the SWC and their alumni base bisbanding than it did the actual death penalty.

Well, UAB shut down their football program and are bowl eligible in their first year back. The DP isn?t really a DP. NCAA, feel free to drop one on OM.

Ole Miss needs to drop intercollegiate athletics, and try to rebuild their shattered reputation.

Not trying to argue you point because I agree but getting the DP in the SEC West will be very hard to rebound from.

If they sat 2018 out and took a year to hire a coach who could rebuild the program however he wanted they would be better off than dealing with the extracted penalties they will likely receive.

And replace them with Clemson, that should do it

SMU really de-emphasized football when they brought it back. Where they are now is more a result of decisions they made than it is a result of the death penalty itself. It does go without saying that they never would have made those decisions if they hadn’t got the death penalty.

What would be wonderful from our perspective is:
1. for them to go thru a long drawn out investigation that hurts recruiting. (Check)
2. for them to receive crippling sanctions. (Check)
3. the investigation to be reinstated and the to be found providing whores for recruits.
4. then after they are already crippled by sanctions and another long investigation UNM gets the DP.

This would be wonderful to sit back and watch, and we're already half way there.
