I stole this from DS on SPS. All I can say is...my gosh this country has gone totally soft. I'm embarrassed.

"Compassion for the other team"...yikes.

So it's the better team's fault the other team can't stop the HB Dive every play? This is ridiculous... What are they supposed to do? Punt on 1st down? Not intercept a pass? Not recover a fumble?

Well I knew it would happen... Roger Goodell would turn all of football into one big tickle fight...

It looks like this is just a non-competitive after school rec league for elementary and middle schoolers.

The best solution would be to create a competitive league with no mercy rules for the older kids who want it and are good enough, and the rest can play in this league for exercise and a fun, safe afterschool activity.

The article is not very detailed. I wonder what the Paul Harvey is.

Just serves as further evidence of the pussification of American culture. Why don't we just immediately convert every f'ing football organization in the country to two-hand touch without scores being recorded, because that is exactly where we will eventually end up anyway, based on recent developments. Yes, let's by all means penalize excellence and teach kids involved in losing situations not to worry about striving to improve themselves and their current station, because sooner or later someone will mandate them an unearned, artificial victory anyway!

When I read about this kind of stuff, it reminds me of my first Little League experience. I was eight years old and not worth a shit, and I told my dad I wanted to quit, because we hadn't won a game and I still wasn't getting to play. He told me I wasn't quitting. He told me when I joined the team I made a commitment, and that I should spend my time trying to get better and encouraging all the kids that were playing to play hard and not give up. Then he said something that has always stayed with me: "Anything that is worth doing at all is worth doing poorly until you can improve enough to do it well."

Like all respect, self-respect must be earned, too.

The best solution would be to teach the kids that there are winners and losers in life and if you are on the losing side now use it as motivation to work hard and better yourself.

California is a lost cause. Let them do what ever they are going to do. Except for those laws that end up hurting everyone else because their state is so big.

It would be a whole lot easier to just have the refs run the clock without stoppage after a certain lead is reached.
This is done in middle school and high school a lot more often than most people realize.

So what's more embarrassing, getting killed on the field or the other team just laying down on you so you don't run up the score?

Breaking news: USM Athletic Director is wanting Conference USA to adopt this system as soon as possible....particularly before they play Boise this weekend.

"Compassion for the other team"...yikes.

And the main problem is, they think simply instituting this rule will teach compassion, which is absurd. You can't teach compassion; you can tell someone what it is and suggest they feel it, but you either have compassion for someone or you don't.

Heck, this rule may even cause some kids to loathe the other team because their awfulness is keeping them from being able to score.

The MAIS does this currently.

I like what Les Miles did to Ole Miss a couple of years ago. Start taking knees with 5 minutes left in the game. Nothing else says "we want to get the hell out of here" like that.

Yea, seems like you could do something similar to the "ten run rule" in high school baseball after 5 innings, and make it a 35 point rule at halftime or later, or something like that. It is still puss, but a little less puss that way

We won't even recognize this country in 20 more years.
