The Division I Baseball and NCAA Championship Oversight Committees just approved a significant change to the baseball postseason. Instead of only seeding the top 8 teams, all 16 regional hosts will be seeded. Per D1BB's Kendall Rogers (https://d1baseball.com/news/seeding-changes-coming-tourney/), "It?ll start in 2018 and the format will call for 1 vs. 16, 2 vs. 15, and so on in the super regional round. Should one of those seeds get upset in the regional round, the winner of the regional would replace them as that seed and there would not be a reseeding process, a potential future change that many coaches are still in favor of."

I'm sure Florida State and the Aggies are jumping for joy at this news, as they will be less likely to have to go through Florida and TCU, respectively, in the Super Regional round. Might make travelling to the supers a little more difficult, but should result in more entertaining match-ups.

More from the article (https://d1baseball.com/news/seeding-changes-coming-tourney/): "With the premier teams and regional hosts being seeded 1-16, the next question from many around the sport will be about potentially seeding 1-64. Though you can?t say never after today?s news, the likelihood of that occurring in the near future is small. There are some serious obstacles against seeding all 64 teams in the postseason. Unlike basketball, which has almost every game televised on some sort of platform, there are still some conferences where viewing games is a challenge. Of course, there are regional advisory committees, but I doubt the committee will want to rely solely on that and metrics to make those tough decisions in the 50-64 range."

Last year FSU got Sam Houston and TexAgs got Davidson ... we got a ticket to a buzz saw in Baton Rouge

This is logical and probably should have been done long ago.

The eventual change to re-seed after regionals, which is probably coming at some point, is one I am very much opposed to. It is ridiculous to me that a 3 seed might have to beat the #1 team in the country in the regional and then the #2 team in the country in the SR just because they were a 3 seed, while the top seeds would face a far easier route to get there.

True, and going to LSU sucked, but that was the committee trying to avoid the the potential UF-FSU and A&M-TCU rematches from 2015 and 2016. (I do wish Davidson had been able to pull off the upset in that 15-inning game)

IMO if you have the type of regular season that earns you a 3 seed, you should have to go above and beyond to get to Omaha.

Not sure what to make of this. May be good. May have some potential problems.

If they LEGITIMATELY seed 1-64 it hurts LSU more than anyone else.

Personally, I wish the Conference tournaments were scrapped and there were 1-64 seed tournament were each round was a best-of-3, maybe round-1 is a single game

I think the 4-team regional is an unfair advantage to big teams ... and it does not feel like real baseball ... baseball is supposed to be a duel- a war of two

Oh yeah, forget Omaha. Play a H-A-H national championship series. Omaha sucks. Imagine a Starkville-Baton Rouge-Starkville national championship series
