Explosive Plays

Listening to Coach Grantham's press conference, he stated if we could have avoided the "explosive plays" against Auburn, it may have been an entirely different game. He may be correct, but they did bust that first big run right up the middle when they knocked our DL and LB's out of the way. He didn't indicate how we can avoid the explosive plays in the future-hope he figures it out.

Both Georgia and Auburn took advantage of the aggressiveness of our defense with play action. They were able to do it because of their athletes. Out side of playing Bama I am not worried about the defense. I counting that one as a lose. I feel pretty good about the other games.

I agree about the holding. Watch both games several times and some of the hold were too obvious not to be called but they were not.

here and there. Some of it is due to the sheer aggressiveness of the scheme but some of it is due to lack of discipline by some of our players (namely McLaurin).

If I could avoid the chili cheese fries I wouldn?t have explosive gas.

I worry about A&M and Ole Miss making big plays but their defenses are not going to stop our offense. We will have some big runs on them.

I'm not sure what the point of your post is, but you are not describing our defense.

Our defense against UGA and especially Auburn was the opposite of bend-but-don't-break. It was bend very little unless you completely break. And our CB's have not been consistently 10-15 yards off the line, they (specifically Cleveland) have just been getting beat. Safeties don't look confused, they look like they know what's coming, but instead it's a pass not a run or it's a double move and they get beat trying to be aggressive rather than smart.

Got it. You never know what games our fans are watching sometimes. Agree that you described our past defenses, which goes to show our folks will complain about either approach if we aren't doing well.

We can't have players-turn spectators on defense during a game. You can't prevent big plays, if that happens. Hope this was mentioned and will be corrected.

I don't know. Cleveland was beat bad twice in LSU and GA games. Bryant was the guilty one for AUB.
