View Full Version : Are our Backs using the Jumbo Tron to see behind them when they break away on a run?

I have looked at some pictures of Mixon on that pass up the middle and it appears his eyes are looking up at the Jumbo Tron while running.

Pretty much all players do that now. College & pro if there's a jumbotron on that end of the field they're looking.

Are you asking if they use it like a tool (rear-view Mirror)? ... if so, I think it's not a bad idea ... but what the heck do I know - I was a left tackle

It didn't look like he was looking to see him self it really seemed that he was using it to see how close the LSU guys were to him.

Once a sideline reporter told TO she'd noticed he was looking up at the jumbotron as he ran in for a touchdown and asked if he was using it to check for defenders coming up behind him. He responded no, he'd never thought of that, he just liked looking at himself.

That's just begging to trip if you do that if it's just more than a glance.

I have also noticed that visiting players are watching the replays while on the field as well. That has to make it tough to get your assignment right for the next play.

There's no doubt they use it. Mixon never turned it on because he knew he didn't have to. If he had seen someone close he would've run a lot faster than he did.

I don't think he could have run any faster if his life depended on it.

I can see that. He covered the ball up and felt the guy coming
The other 4 defenders escorting didn't see anybody coming though. I bet Saban lit into that ass

nope, but like Dallas said, you can see him cover up the ball and brace...

edit: and his life DID depend on it....*

I think it's funny (and slightly annoying but I'm not complaining) that the Jumbotron turns off the video on our FG/PAT attempts until the ball is kicked, but not the other team.

There's a slight delay (maybe half a second) between the action on the field and what is broadcasted on the jumbotron... I'd be careful using it if I was an rb.

Noticed that Saturday night and wondered why they were doing it. Still don't know. But having the endzone view is the only way I can tell if the FG is good or not.

It sure did. He saw the tackler coming and wrapped up that football! Great job on his part!
It apperas he was the only one watching though. His blockers didn't have a clue.

I assume someone (either the kicker himself, or boniol, or Mullen) thinks it's a distraction.
I kind of thought it might be a new rule, but we haven't done it consistently so I guess they think it's an advantage.
