Part of this is because their Confederate mascots aren't going to help them with the NCAA in their investigation- especially this year with all of these Confederate Monuments being taken down across the country.

They know the Black Bear isn't that popular so they're trying to get out in front of this with their fans before everything else hits the fan for them- literally.

This would be like MSU naming their teams after the Dawg Pound Rock.
