View Full Version : Hype Video not so hype

Seriously did Strickland take our video people to Gatorland with him. These videos are subpar to their previous work especially in the music dept. The LSU hype video is better but any music person has to know that I'm going to be thinking Gangsta's Paradise the whole time I'm listening to that. I want the old 2014 video crew back...now.

Are we not doing the Relentless videos this year, or have I just missed them?

I thought it was pretty good.

I agree, that isn't as good as 2014. I do like this video though.
The part where Dan and Brandon Bryant are walking through the tunnel is cool and when you see the punter kick the ball, but Simmons isn't in the frame and you immediately see the ball get smoked back at the punter is pretty cool (0:34). The old footage of us and the corndogs is pretty cool as well.

This video is much better than the previous, but the quality and quantity of content is still substantially below previous years. I think we may have taken for granted how good of a marketer we had in Stricklin. The video/digital production dept and marketing seem to be really struggling this year. Perfect example is these t-shirts that are "True Maroon" 2.0

(I fully expect to get blasted for criticizing these shirts)

I liked it. No not as good as 2014 videos, but much better than anything else this year. The gangsta's paradise remix was pretty cool.

Everything just seems to have a cheesy quality to it. It seems like we have some college aged girls running the show (not that there is anything wrong with that). I want more testosterone in our sports marketing.

The beginning of that 2014 video is fantastic, but beyond that the videos are very similar. I actually prefer the audio on this one better than the 2014 one.

Nothing wrong with this video except that it isn't longer.

I expect a good 3 minute highlight of us stomping them next Thursday.

I prefer hype videos to have a heavy, crunchy sound: White Zombie, Five Finger Death Punch, Godsmack ,etc.

The music is too familiar with Gangsta's Paradise. That's so 90s hip hop.

Then go look at the other videos they have done. The theme has been 1970s, Vegas and goofy.

I like a serious, me against the world, theme and tone. This one is the first one that is even close to be successful at getting me fired up for football.

Fair enough, but it was evident that our video guys were going to go this way if you follow them on twitter. At least for this week.

I mean, I'm pretty sure it's just a sample of Gangsta's Paradise. But it doesn't really sound anything like 90s hip-hop to me.

Regardless, though, I guess one man's cheesy is another's cool. I find the music in the 2014 video cheesier than this one. The 90s are coming back with a vengeance anyway.

Sure, some of the videos have been pretty different, but I'm ok with that. They don't all have to be metal for me to enjoy it. I find a lot of metal itself to be pretty cheesy.

To me, the single most motivating image in Mississippi State football in my lifetime is Dak's stiff arm against LSU. They could repeat that moment 50 times and play Brahm's Lullaby under it and I would still get hyped.

Not true. I'll defend him there. We have used Kongo's, MUSE (well Uprising was good anyway), Black Keys, Imagine Dragons, XAmbassadors, etc in the recent past. They just need to GET BACK to some of that stuff.

And Smootness, I don't think the video was "cheesy" per se, just cliched. I understand their strategy with shorter but more videos, but you have to be MORE creative in doing it that way, otherwise it just comes across as lazy. Any kid with youtube and itunes could make that video in 5 minutes.

I'll give my two cents.

I'm OK with the hype videos and I like that they used the highlights from the past.

But at the bare minimum can we do something like this too in addition to the hype videos? If we aren't going to do Relentless anymore I'm fine with 5-10 minute videos of game highlights with Neil Price calls.

And more of my two cents:

They complained about the lack of hits for Relentless, but the only person I can ever remember advertising or promoting it in any way shape or form was Paul Jones on his website.

Also, they have to remember that the fact of the matter was last year our team looked bad until November- and even after we upset A&M we got blown out by Alabama and Arkansas was a shootout that we lost where they managed to score almost every drive. Yeah, we finished the year on a high note by winning the Egg Bowl and the St. Petersburg Bowl but our team wasn't very good last year. A bad product is going to equal fewer views.

I think it's legit in this case. We're one of the few SEC teams without a Relentless style show now. These videos help promote the team and thus help make MSU better.

THIS! It just seems lazy and unprofessional. It looks bad for an institution of higher learning to have videos that look like they are home made in some dude's basement.

all we need is a video of 4 years of John Bond highlights vs LSU with the song--"This is how we do it"
