That is awful! How can they afford to keep their program afloat? That is just shameful or a Metro area the size of Hattiesburg.

Yeah you play an sec team at
Home on opening day and there's no one there to see it. And one whole section was all blue and white. You could even hear the go, big blue chant in 4th quarter. Sad.

IMO....USM should have had a bigger crowd for that game but as Far as college football in general.

1. Going to a game has gotten to expensive for your middle class family. Tickets, food, parking....

2. The game is on TV in HD

3. College football has been around long enough people have figured out every game outside the P5 conferences is an exhibition and nothing more. The game is meaningless for USM fans and U.K. Fans realistically.

I saw a lot of games with empty seats. The one I saw that surprised was Indiana v OHSt. Opening game on campus vs a top 10 traditional opponent... how is there empty seats? Because Indiana fans knew the outcome before the game started.

I'm tired of MSU having to bail out USM's athletic department.... their Athletic Department would no longer exist if not for MSU.

Always been that way in Hattiesburg, though.

UNC v. California had a ton of empty seats. I really think this is a trend. $300 to take a family to see a college football game is crazy for the majority of people.

It's getting to a point in the Burg where's it's time for the football team to go D2 and leave th D1 stuff there to the hoops and baseball.

Agreed. Nice town and people but zero pride in Football. Of course, if I was required to wear polyester Black and Mustard, I wouldn't show up either.

You could get into that game with a family of four, park, eat and drive for less then 150.00.

Jacks right you can go to a usm game for cheap, cheap. I have friends here offer me tickets every week but I have no desire to sit in the "rock" where's there's zero atmosphere. Last time I went I almost fell asleep cause there's just no noise or intensity.

Game day at the "rock" you can buy tickets for $10 or less if someone doesn't just give them to you.

What was our attendance yesterday? I thought it was pretty good considering who we were playing. I'd guess a realistic count would be between 50-55K.

What was USM's attendance? If it was over 30k, it was a success.

Remember when they played us, and their stadium was as full as it has been in years? Wonder if they had some extra motivation that day.

Ole Miss claims their attendance was 62,500 but unless their stadium holds 75,000 in reality it was about the same as ours. The percentage of empty seats looked about the same at any rate.

I thought our game was pretty well attended given the matchup. Lots of folks on campus that seem to have stayed at their tent instead of going to the Stadium. Which I don't blame them, tv's drinks, food, etc...

Next home game though....

If you lose and no one is there to see it, did you really lose?

They always fudge their numbers. Like leaving Shea Shea in for the whole game to pump those stats up.
