Weather guys, what's the latest update on Harvey? I live in Houston and I know some of you guys are real smart with this weather stuff. Local channels are still projecting the worst to hit Corpus Christi area.

Last thing I've read from the NHC and from local folks is that feet of rain is very possible. Expectation is still for Harvey to become a major hurricane before landfall then meander close to the coast (seeing between 110-125 MPH as the approximate max landfall wind). I'm also seeing some rain numbers being generated that are very scary. 35 inches of rain in some locations is a number I've seen floating around from my weather sources.

Go look at tropical storm Fay from 2008. Not the same threat as far as tornadoes, but a similar type situation in terms of a meandering system that stays close to the coast. I believe locations in Florida received over 40 inches of rain from Fay. Not out of the realm of possibility here.

Be interesting to see if models continue to bend it back offshore and restrengthening before heading into La.

Seriously?
Some were doing just that. The latest GFS is not and keeps it over tx before finally lifting out in time to rain opening game. Right now it's just impossible to know what this storm will do long term.

Are they pretty sure on the amount of
rain fall/flooding?

NHC feels confident 15-25 inches is going to happen in a good number of places. But they also show isolated 35 inches in some places. So the expectation should be that a large number of areas will see over a foot of rain over the next 3-4 days with some receiving 2-3 FEET of rain.

Seriously?

StormGeo saying POSSIBLY.....possibly.....a Cat 2 at 2nd landfall just east of Galveston Bay. There is not much confidence in this 2nd landfall though at this point.

If you are in Houston... It's time for you to make a decision. First off.. where are you in "Houston" South will be worse. Proper will likely have major flooding problems.. North still a lot of rain.
All those are really uncertainties as of now as pointed out. In the next 24 hours we will know a lot more... How far in land does it go before it stalls and gradly gets pushed east.. Does it go back into the gulf and re-develop...
Those are things that won't occur until Sun-Mon... and when you are talking about a tropical system.. 2 hours from now is hard enough to figure out.

Stay safe.... Water is no joke and that will be what kills people in this storm. Not the wind.
I say make a decision now because you don't want to be making that decision Sunday after a foot of rain has already come down and you look and see Harvey back in the gulf as a Hurricane again...

I lived in Corpus Christi for a few years growing up and still have friends there. Will be thinking of them and looking for updates.

Harvey now a Cat. 4 with 130mph. Gusts could be over 140.
