Dam he was a great coach. Back then the ND/USC game was the game of the year. I remember the 73 game when SC came back from 21 down and beat them 55 to 24.

This line stood out to me from Pat Forde's piece on Parseghian (https://sports.yahoo.com/ara-parseghian-man-ahead-time-183050283.html):

"Parseghian wasn’t lavishly paid at Notre Dame – at the time, he was contractually prevented from making more than the school’s highest-paid faculty member." I can't imagine an administrator trying to get that clause in a contract these days.

True that... I remember Coach Bryant made $99,999.99/year because he didn't "think it was right for a football coach to make more than the University President"... Of course his money was no good, anyway....

99K in 1980 was a lot of Jack.

Of course... he was still likely underpaid was my point, though... much like MDL is...

and why'd ya arbitrarily pick "1980"? *;)

Coach Ara also had commercial contracts with automobile companies and other advertising avenues.

#39 Rudy. He was offsides.
