View Full Version : Another good Gary Segars article. "The Network" gets a mention.

So, the NCAA never tried to check any of Freeze's calls to see if it lined up with any violations?

I'm starting to believe that Mars already has the records, has found what he's looking for, and is now working on making it legal. Surely his counterterrorism expert knows how to get records with or without government help.

Well, maybe they asked for the office phone and the university cell phone, and didn't know about the Foundation funded phone?? More plausibly - maybe they provided fake records to the NCAA? But remember, the NCAA is looking for recruit contact numbers, coaches numbers, and possibly booster numbers so a number to a hooker might not have been noticed.

As for the "why did they give up the records in the first place", I have a theory. They know that there are numbers that line up call girls and croots. Hugh knows every dirty detail. The OM brain trust thinks it's time to part ways to try and end the case, so Hugh takes the fall. By making the "private" phone record "public", they give Hugh a way where he can come back and sue. They settle out of court for his buy out, and Hugh gets the Golden Parachute he was promised when this all started - legally. I personally think this is a BS line of thinking, but it jives with the whole OM "above the law" approach they have had this whole time.

A simpler explanation is that they gave Mars calls from the office phone and not the cell. As I recall, there were not many calls in total and there would have been had it been the cell and office phones. Occam's razor.

Which if they gave Mars the office phone, it blows the whole theory of Hugh getting some road action. In fact, it would prove the Northwestern kids' premise that he wasn't in Tampa.

I've been thinking this too. The details is anybody's guess but... Freeze is falling on the sword. Somehow, someway they will take care of him under table, through the back door. Somehow.

This makes no sense. This is almost career suicide. Things were going to be tough with a show cause add this personal stuff he's virtually unhireable. No way he agreed to this.

Perhaps he had no choice when the other option he was presented with involved federal charges?

I'm still wondering about Bjork's comment "PATTERN of misbehavior". I think Maroon may be on to something. Freeze and OM already knew / know that Hugh's gonna get a show cause for the pending NCAA case. If they can blame the calls all on Hugh, it would be better off for the program. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised at all if the calls were entirely for crootin and none were for him personally. maybe. who knows. Hugh may have had a choice to get show caused with no money or take this type of fall with a big fat check.

This guy's my new favorite writer!

I find it so comical that the OM mouth pieces, looking at you Neal "not a fan" McCready, tried so hard to make Coach 34 and Rosey look like fools regarding The Network. For a while there, whenever Neal & company would try to dispel an investigation rumor on Twitter, they'd sarcastically type #TheNetwork. 17'n jokes on you Neal.

He committed career suicide the day he signed on for what the Network had planned.

His only hope was that maybe, just maybe he could pull off winning big and return Ole Miss to glory before it all went to shit. He got close, and did damn well with a high school offense. If he had won the SEC or played for a Natty then it would have been worth it for the bow tied bourbon soaked Cult of Archie.

THIS. Their goose is cooked. Hugh resigned because he knows it's over but would rather face a show cause than 20-30 counts of interstate sex trafficking and child sexual abuse for hooking up croots with pros. Plus, who knows if the pros were of age. Also, after the Louisville and Baylor cases and all the rape stuff going on he would have an army of women's advocacy groups at OM because he was creating a false sense of sexual entitlement for these athletes that could easily result in rape or domestic violence.
