In an attempt to provide the board with a brief departure from the ongoing "Hugh Freeze saga", I would like to share some information on an upcoming Mississippi feature film, which has been in production for the past seven months (and don't worry, it is very much applicable to this particular group and board). As the film includes two MSU alums, one of which is a former MSU receiver, my intent is to spotlight the film, generate added buzz, and with any luck, create excitement amongst the board in order to promote ultimate success of the film (as well as to the MS film industry as a whole).
The title of the film is Blood Country. Presently, it is in the final stages of post-production, and is scheduled for its MS theatrical release beginning on October 7th.
Blood Country is a western-style thriller, based on a true story, and set in 1880s Lawrence County, MS. It is a tale of a murder in the small south Mississippi town of Oak Vale in 1884. The screenplay was adapted from Robert E. Jones short story "The Outlaw, the Sheriff and the Governor," which is part of a collection from the book "Mississippi Gumbo - A Collection of Tales of South Mississippi and a Potpourri of Other Mississippi Writings". Shot exclusively in Mississippi, it incorporates many historic and "hidden gems" locations across the state. Some of the primary shoot locations include Old Silver Creek (Lawrence Co.), Monticello, Rodney, Canton, Hazlehurst, Greenwood, Jacinto, and Ripley. So even if you aren't a huge movie fan, yet you enjoy MS history, I have no doubt this film will be captivating.
Even in the early phases of the film's pre-production of the film, one of the principal goals was to utilize as many MS cast and crew as possible, thereby keeping the film a true product of Mississippi filmmaking. The film's lead character, making his debut in a starring role, is Chris Bosarge. As many of you probably know, Chris played WR for Mississippi State's football team in the early 90s (he actually caught the first TD pass of the Jackie Sherrill era). Not sure how many in the group know Chris personally, but aside from being an all-around great guy, he is also an amazing actor. Chris took this complex, and often times, dark role and just killed it.
The film was also produced by an MSU civil & environmental engineering alumni, who also has a supporting role in the film as one of the brothers of Chris' character.
Provided below are links related to the film (incuding the film's teaser trailer), as well as information on how to purchase tickets for the premieres we've already opened up ticket sales. As of today, we have opened up the ticket sales for FIVE of the first NINE MS premieres. The ticket platforms for the remaining FOUR premieres will be coming released in the coming weeks. On Thursday, November 7th, the film will be premiering in Memphis, TN (tickets for that showing will also be posted in coming weeks).
Additionally, we are working on locking down theatrical premieres in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Little Rock, Nashville, and onward, and we hope to have those finalized within the next three to four weeks. A Starkville premiere is also in the works.
If you are on Facebook or Twitter, we would welcome your support through "Liking" or "Following" the Blood Country pages.
