In an attempt to provide the board with a brief departure from the ongoing "Hugh Freeze saga", I would like to share some information on an upcoming Mississippi feature film, which has been in production for the past seven months (and don't worry, it is very much applicable to this particular group and board). As the film includes two MSU alums, one of which is a former MSU receiver, my intent is to spotlight the film, generate added buzz, and with any luck, create excitement amongst the board in order to promote ultimate success of the film (as well as to the MS film industry as a whole).

The title of the film is Blood Country. Presently, it is in the final stages of post-production, and is scheduled for its MS theatrical release beginning on October 7th.

Blood Country is a western-style thriller, based on a true story, and set in 1880s Lawrence County, MS. It is a tale of a murder in the small south Mississippi town of Oak Vale in 1884. The screenplay was adapted from Robert E. Jones short story "The Outlaw, the Sheriff and the Governor," which is part of a collection from the book "Mississippi Gumbo - A Collection of Tales of South Mississippi and a Potpourri of Other Mississippi Writings". Shot exclusively in Mississippi, it incorporates many historic and "hidden gems" locations across the state. Some of the primary shoot locations include Old Silver Creek (Lawrence Co.), Monticello, Rodney, Canton, Hazlehurst, Greenwood, Jacinto, and Ripley. So even if you aren't a huge movie fan, yet you enjoy MS history, I have no doubt this film will be captivating.

Even in the early phases of the film's pre-production of the film, one of the principal goals was to utilize as many MS cast and crew as possible, thereby keeping the film a true product of Mississippi filmmaking. The film's lead character, making his debut in a starring role, is Chris Bosarge. As many of you probably know, Chris played WR for Mississippi State's football team in the early 90s (he actually caught the first TD pass of the Jackie Sherrill era). Not sure how many in the group know Chris personally, but aside from being an all-around great guy, he is also an amazing actor. Chris took this complex, and often times, dark role and just killed it.

The film was also produced by an MSU civil & environmental engineering alumni, who also has a supporting role in the film as one of the brothers of Chris' character.

Provided below are links related to the film (incuding the film's teaser trailer), as well as information on how to purchase tickets for the premieres we've already opened up ticket sales. As of today, we have opened up the ticket sales for FIVE of the first NINE MS premieres. The ticket platforms for the remaining FOUR premieres will be coming released in the coming weeks. On Thursday, November 7th, the film will be premiering in Memphis, TN (tickets for that showing will also be posted in coming weeks).

Additionally, we are working on locking down theatrical premieres in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Little Rock, Nashville, and onward, and we hope to have those finalized within the next three to four weeks. A Starkville premiere is also in the works.

If you are on Facebook or Twitter, we would welcome your support through "Liking" or "Following" the Blood Country pages.

That's awesome to hear, Commercecommet24! I've always enjoyed MS history (I have family from both north & south MS - maybe that makes me well-rounded). I thought I was pretty well versed on MS during Civil War through post-Civil War/reconstruction, however, I think I learned more during my time location scouting for this film than I did over the last 34 yrs of my life. There really are some great "off the beatin path" sites and structures throughout the state. Glad the post/trailer peaked your interest and hope to see you at one of the premieres!

Thanks Rex! Yeah, I was able to work with Chris throughout the shoot and we had a great time. I'm glad you liked the trailer. Lot of blood, sweat, and tears went into it. Probably heavier on the "blood" and "sweat" than the "tears" (although I will neither confirm nor deny that ratio), as I didn't realize how much went into a feature film production starting at pre-production through post-production and release. However, the experience is one I won't soon forget.

I wanted to post an update that tickets to the Greenwood premiere of Blood Country officially went live this morning. This premiere, which will take place at the Historic Elks Lodge in downtown Greenwood, is significant as multiple scenes from the movie were filmed at Florewood River Plantation. This Greenwood location is where the 2016 film, The Duel (with Woody Harrelson & Liam Hemsworth) was filmed.

Tickets are $10 per person in advance and $15 at the door. Tickets can be accessed via Eventbrite via the following link:

http://www.eventbrite.com/e/blood-c...ts-36639170746

The film showing will begin at 6:30pm. A reception following the Q&A with cast and crew will be held on the first floor of the Historic Elks Lodge.
