The 2 freshman Hill and Gay are the talk of camp the first 2 days.

Lee , KH just that talented
KT has bulked up also doesn't look like a kid going thru his first fall camp

How about any of the OL we signed in last year's class?

Just a guess, but it's probably way too early for anyone to know that. They aren't even in pads yet.

I think all actual football questions will likely have to wait a few weeks

Awesome news. I'm interested to hear about Nick's progression in the passing game. I think his progression is the difference in a 6 win season versus 8 or 9

I'd like to see Lee used as a H-Back like we used Nick Griffen along with Aeris in the same backfield. Lee seems to like contact based on his special teams play. He's very athletic and he seems like a guy that can run the ball, catch the ball and block well.

Hadn't thought of using D-Lee as an H-Back, but I actually really like this idea. As you point out, he's big and likes contact. Not real sure about him as a receiver, but he could definitely be a much better version of Shump as a short yardage specialist and TD vulture from inside the 10.

I don't want to take out Aeris around the goal line though. He smells the end zone.

Dude, how is D-Lee in the game as an H-Back affecting Aeris being on the field? The point of an H-Back/FB is to have two backs on the field together. It gives us the option of having D-Lee lead block for Aeris or give it to him as the first man through. It would take a TE or WR off the field depending on whether we decide to go "heavy", not Aeris.

When I saw this "Not real sure about him as a receiver, but he could definitely be a much better version of Shump as a short yardage specialist and TD vulture from inside the 10." I assumed you meant having DLee instead of Aeris because I don't ever recall Shump & Aeris being in together around the goal line.

We use our TE's as H-backs. It wont be DLee

And I'll wait until we see Hill on the field to believe it. We heard about what a hard-hitter Leo was his true freshman year- and he redshirted. Until he pass-blocks, his status will remain uncertain

Leo came in out of shape. By all accounts, Kylin Hill and Willie came in the opposite.

True, and supposedly Leo was asked about redshirting and had no issue with it.
And I wouldn't be shocked if Austin Williams also plays as true freshman .

I liked Austin Williams' tape because it seemed like he ran crisp routes and caught everything thrown to him. He may not be a #1 receiver but those traits could make him a great possession receiver.

Would lead you to believe that a freshman RB will see significant playing time. Now, I hope he does play if he is the best, but that has NEVER been how Mullen operates. He plays Seniors and Juniors. It will be Williams and Gibson. If Kylin gets 25 carries this year I will be surprised.

Everyone is convinced Grantham will be attacking and aggressive. I think it is more likely that Simmons will morph into a "space eater" NG or he will be forced to split time with some other less talented player who will assume that role. We will wonder why Simmons doesn't play more or have a larger impact rushing the passer? Then he will go to the NFL and do what Chris Jones does. DB's will play 10 yards off the line and TE's will kick our ass over the middle. Until shown otherwise, that is my expectation. I doubt Hill gets more than 25 carries like Someone mentioned previously.
OL will be weak. Fitz will run a lot of tough yards up the gut. We are a 6-7 win team. I hope our D plays lights out, but we have years of evidence suggesting otherwise.

Grantham wouldnt come here if Mullen was gonna make him play that shit. Grantham aint a yes man or in the country club. I feel pretty good about 4 out of the 5 OL. RT concerns me

Dont blame you at all for feeling that way. Mullen has always been a meddler and its hurt us. I'm just saying Grantham is a take no shit kind of guy, couldve went to a lot of other places besides here. Mullen aint telling him how to run the defense........hopefully

My expectation is that we will be much better on defense, which is not saying much. We were absolutely terrible last year, especially against Auburn, Alabama, and Arkansas. I agree that we will have a weak OL, which is to be expected. You are probably correct about a 6,7 win season.

We will be far more aggressive on defense this year. If the tackling has improved we will win a couple of games we shouldn't.

Man, I don't wanna talk OL. I retain some hope that our D will be different this year and perform better. Kickers will get "meddled with" and will become head cases......

What if Sirmon does well at a different school?

Firing Coach Sallach gives me some hope the Cohen effect may eventually influence the OL coach. Here's to hoping.

This will be the best OL we've had since 2014 by far. 4 of the 5 are SEC caliber players. Reese may be but we havent seen him. Jenkins will be fine he is gonna be playing on sundays after his time here.

He did work there this spring just no contact

He practiced 3 or 4 times and nothing live. All he did was zone step and snap a few balls- just like he did this summer. Thats not getting work at Center. Snapping the ball and blocking vs just blocking is a huge difference and big deal. Not to mention the Center makes the OL calls.

I love Jenkins and he is a good player. He wont be ready for LSU, Georgia, and Auburn. He will be a much better player the 2nd half of the season

If Hill is as good as everyone says he is then we might as well play him because he becomes draft eligible three years out of high school. RSing him would just mean we only get two years out of him.

I think that furthers my point about using him as a H-Back to get our best players on the field and utilize them. I would love to see some sets with both Aeris and Lee in the backfield at the same time.

Jenkins has the most experience in the system and he's one of the most athletic and versatile OL I've seen in recent memory. He's really good at getting to the point of attack in the running game. I'm sure communication and knowledge of defenses are his focus through camp.

Am I the only one that thinks wrinkles out of a 2 tight, 2 back set would be fun and complement the stable at both positions. You could have a bigger edge blocking presence, down hill physical rushing presence, add in a few rpo and screens?
