OXFORD, Miss. — Hugh Freeze made his first public comments Wednesday since abruptly resigning as Mississippi’s football coach last week.

“God is good, even in difficult times,’’ Freeze told USA TODAY Sports. “Wonderful wife and family, and that’s my priority.’’

Hugh Freeze said a bunch of things about 'sin nature' the week before he resigned
Sean Tuohy -- the real-life father in 'The Blind Side' -- not giving up on his friend, Hugh Freeze
Freeze said his family is supporting him after records showed that a one-minute call was made on Jan. 19, 2016, from Freeze's university-issued phone to a number associated with a female escort service. Ole Miss officials said last Thursday they found a "pattern of personal misconduct" by Freeze.

“Oh, gosh, yeah,’’ Freeze said when asked if his family is standing by him.

Although Freeze has not been seen publicly since he resigned Thursday, he indicated he is getting out. He wore a baseball cap, T-shirt and shorts while clearing brush at his home in an affluent subdivision near the lake where he is known to fish.

During a brief interview with USA TODAY Sports Wednesday, Freeze said he planned to take his daughters to volleyball and meet with his pastor.

“The girls have volleyball and then I’ll watch them,’’ he said. “I know I’m going to meet with my pastor tonight too.’’

Freeze also said he planned to visit Memphis, where he coached high school football for more than a decade.

“I’m sure I’ll go to Memphis and hang out with some of my friends some," he said.

When told that a number of people have expressed disappointment with the circumstances of Freeze’s resignation but are standing by him, he said, “I would expect that.’’

Those expressing support for Freeze include Michael Catt, a well-known pastor and author in Georgia who has developed a friendship with Freeze.

“I hurt for him, but he will always be my friend,’’ Catt said in a statement provided to USA TODAY Sports. “True friends are the people who walk into the room when so-called ‘friends’ walk out. All of us stumble, that’s why we need Jesus to pick us up and friends to love us when we do stumble and fall.”

Freeze expressed appreciation.

“Michael Catt is a godly, great man,’’ he said. “I got some good friends.’’

Does he realize how patronizing, arrogant and deserving he sounds?! Not to mention the hypocrisy. Now I believe the things he says about God being good in a difficult time and forgiving, but the entire interview he is still trying to be a preacher, and then act like an arrogant ass when asked if his wife and kids support him, and he is like, "good gosh, yes"! And all of his friends are there for him, what wouldn't they be.

Again, no apology or even an acknowledgment of his transgressions and how he realizes how many people he has hurt and whose trust he has squandered. I believe I would be mainly saying all of that and that he will do everything he can to gain that trust and respect back from my wife and kids first, and all the rest will come next. He knows what he has to do to make it right and then say he will handle all of this privately and step out of the lime light.

The dude shows no remorse, no guilt whatsoever. It's just another day at the house, in t-shit & shorts clearing brush down by the lake - catching one of the girls games today - meetin with preacher man tonight - oh, gosh...my whole family is supporting me - gonna visit some frands in Memphis - God is GOOD!

No apology no remorse and still hiding behind religion. I'm a Christian and I'm tired of him hiding behind it and people defending him as "just a good man who has sinned"! I'm sorry but I was raised to believe if you did something wrong take responsibility, apologize, make restitution(if possible) and ask forgiveness. That's what a real follower of Christ does, not someone who just uses it as a smoke screen. Sorry hugh, you're scum and everytime you open your mouth you just add fuel!

He probably told his wife that the escorts were for recruits and now that I am fired Ole Miss is going to take care of us for the rest of our lives and we can retire at fifty. He's probably relieved that someone else has to deal with that mess and be the face of it.

I would have been a hell of lot more impressed if he would have just quoted John Milton.

There's this beautiful girl just 39'd me forty ways from Sunday... we're done, she's walking to the bathroom, she's trying to walk, she turns... she looks... it's me. Not the Trojan army just 39'd her. Little ol' me. She has this look on her face like: "How the hell did that happen?"

I have yet to read all of the comments, so perhaps someone has said this, but I do not think Freeze's comments will be very well received by the average Ole Miss fan. Other than the True Believers, I would guess that most Ole Miss fans are inwardly fuming after reading this article.

Exactly. That sounds like a guy who's inner circle thinks he was ordering those for recruits cuz "everybody does it". And that could very well be the case. (The part about him ordering hookersnfor recruits, obviously everybody doesn't do that...just umiss and UL)

My prediction is he will do some Christian football type of thing in some way shape or form and use it to direct players to Ole Miss.

I know his daughters are involved, but I'm a little creeped out by him going to a girls volleyball game, especially after just being fired for "moral turpitude" or whatever it was called.
