I had a conversation today with a friend and we thought it strange he was asked to resign so abruptly. Hugh Freeze had more than enough clout to survive a run-of-the-mill sex scandal. Undoubtedly, there is more to the story than we are presently being told.

My guess is the escorts were for recruits which means that there is the likely potential for sex trafficking over state lines. And they may have actually had the intuition to know that his victims would speak up as soon as the story broke. Backing Freeze any more would basically equal a Penn State/Baylor situation. It also means that Freeze's Christian schtick is done and they can't use that anymore. I think they are trying to head this off at the pass before the sex trafficking allegations come up and are trying to distance Freeze from themselves as much as possible.

Dan Wolken is asking that same question.

Rest assured, we are still closer to the beginning of this sordid story than the end. Details will come out. People who knew the double life Freeze was leading will come forward.

And suddenly, the question of what Ole Miss officials knew and when did they know it will become central to the narrative of how the school moves forward.
