According to Antonio Morales of The Clarion-Ledger, the Ole Miss coaching staff had been notified of Pickett’s request for the release by the National Letter of Intent Office.

Pickett is the No. 76 overall recruit in the 2017 class per the 247Sports composite.

After missing the NCAA Tournament last season, head coach Andy Kennedy did not get his contract extended. According to Morales, Kennedy has three seasons remaining on his deal. Morales also indicated that former Rebels assistant Bill Armstrong, who is now an assistant at LSU, was Pickett’s lead recruiter at Ole Miss.

It also doesn’t help the Rebels that a number of SEC programs, such as Alabama and Missouri, landed 5-star players and brought in top recruiting classes. Next season’s SEC is shaping up to be even more challenging for the Rebels.
