Good Morning Fellow Bulldogs,
I want to bring your attention to the Non-Profit Operation Valor.
Now before you stop reading right there. I want to tell you I'm a huge bulldog fan and I Seen It, Hack, Cadaver, and several others can vouch for that. But in truth this is more than a Bulldog thing.. so Bears. please donate too.
Now.. what are 3 things we in the South are Passionate about. Sports (that's why we are here) and our Soldiers / Veterans. Well I'm here to try and see if any of you would be willing to help with that last.
I'm part of a non-profit called Operation Valor. We are a veteran-owned and operated non-profit (501c3 pending) foundation that serves 100% voluntarily with all net proceeds going to the designated annual beneficiaries.
Each year at the end of October, we hold a 3-day weekend of events centered on the Fallen Heroes Memorial Run (formerly the Chris Kyle Memorial Run). The FHMR is an annual weekend of activities inspired by Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield in which we aim to:
- Honor and pay tribute to Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield
- Raise awareness for veteran's issues, including PTSD
- Donate proceeds to fully vetted 501c3 veteran's charities each year.
For 4 years, the Spartan Beast - Dallas at Rough Creek Lodge in Glen Rose, TX has been chosen in order to honor and pay tribute to Navy SEAL Chris Kyle and his close friend Chad Littlefield on the same property where they were both shot and killed in February 2013.
The Fallen Heroes Memorial Run weekend is scheduled for October 27-29, 2017. This year's schedule (tentative) will be:
- October 27th (Friday) Charity benefit dinner and Live Auction (Downtown Dallas, Dinner location is being finalized at this time)
- October 28th (Saturday) Fallen Heroes Memorial Run at the Dallas Spartan Beast (Glen Rose). Followed by a fundraising post-race party that evening
- October 29th (Sunday) Annual Raffle at the Dallas Spartan Race (Glen Rose)
Now BEFORE I lose you and you say... Well I won't be able to attend.. Well Read on... You CAN still help from afar!!!!
Last year a total of $43,936.14 was collected and split evenly between 3 charities for veterans. This year we have selected the following charities to divide proceeds between: Operation Enduring Warrior and The Combat Wounded Coalition. Both of these charities work closely with mentally and physically wounded veterans to honor, empower, and motivate them. Through different programs offered, the wounded veterans are reminded there is no challenge big or small they cannot overcome. Also, we launched our new website and online store over the weekend (http://fallenheroes.run/). Merchandise such as Shirts, Hoodies, Patches, and Hats are available along with VIP and Regular tickets to Friday nights Benefit Dinner tickets. A new option we launched last year and hope to greatly expand upon is the Virtual Medal Run option for those who can't attend the Glen Rose race. Run a 5k and complete the Chris Kyle Workout of the Day to earn a special medal. Also on the site, You will also be able to donate directly using credit card or PayPal. One of our Beneficiaries this year is Operation Enduring Warrior. If you haven't seen or heard of them before. This organization is full of some bad-asses who won't let any of their battle injuries stand in their way of doing anything. And that is one of the points they make in helping other veterans. Whether it's showing them how much they can overcome during a Spartan race, jumping out of an airplane, or working in the community.
