I just got 3 maroon alerts about a situation near library, telling people to evacuate Library, Carpenter, Swalm, Hand, Health Center, Etheredge, and Drill Field......

major constructions going on....

I'm sure it has something like a gas leak -- the Library has been under reconstruction for months

MAROON ALERT Safety concern near Library. Immediately evacuate Library, Carpenter, Swalm, Hand, Health Center, Etheredege and Drill Field

Remember Hand is the Chemistry Department.....

BAD INFO RECEIVED..... Maroon alert should tell what is going on when they post.....

Well they've certainly got some parents freaked out about now....

No shit. The alerts aren't saying anything other than "evacuate" these areas....the reason I made a thread asking what's going on. I'm in Mass, so obviously I don't know what the **** is happening.

Gas leak is what I'm hearing from several people. Someone tried to start a bomb threat rumor, but that's all but been debunked. I was by the library this morning and crews are digging on engineering row right by the library.

I was wrong. Was a bomb threat.

I got bad info too. My sil works on campus and was told it was a gas leak. Seems like every time there is a maroon alert there is a lot of bad info out there. I guess that comes with the internet age we live in.
Transfer orIentation was today but I'm sure most of them are off campus.

Wonder if that was a cover story to keep panic down?

I was thinking that too. Someone starts screaming bomb and the orderly evacuation would have been over.
Maroon alerts scare the shit out of me when I have family, especially my kids, on campus.

What's bad is there are a bunch of elementary kids on campus now I think. I saw signs over campus about impact2 which is a math camp for 4th-8th graders. Maybe they're not here yet.

I was on campus in Mccool Hall (straight across drill field from library). Never really was any panic. Just got our stuff and walked out. Saw people walking out of the library but there wasn't anyone running or anything like that. I didn't know until I had gotten to my truck that it was an actual bomb threat. Also never really saw a heavy police presence or anything. I don't want that to sound like I'm complaining or anything, just wasn't anything like the shooter situation.

Camp Jigsaw is a special needs camp with over 50 special need boys with Autism on campus at this time. It is great that they were on an off campus excursion this afternoon. There are other camps in the morning and afternoon most of the summer along with the New Student Orientation happening.....

Not exactly break. Summer first term finals start tomorrow. I think a lot of grad student work was due today at the library.

2 things I know as a LEO is you never order an evacuation in an active shooter situation, due to u not knowing where the gunman is. 2nd the university needs to look at a different method on sending alerts for a bomb threat. Cellphone and radio signals can possibly set off a certain type bomba.

For those that have loved ones (kids, etc) on campus, do these type scares influence how you perceive LEO, politics, etc?

I pulled up the drill field webcam as soon as I got the notice (was home today instead of on campus). You're right- it all looked pretty calm.
