This link should be stickied at the top of the forum.

Looks like they're cutting the sod off the field ... wasn't sure if they'd do that or not.

They could and should sell the shit out of that sod. Be pretty cool to have some of it as your front lawn.

Awesome idea. I wouldn't hate seeing this become an official Dudy Noble construction thread. We all obviously have a huge interest in this work, and a single place to post thoughts/ideas/discussions/photos/plans would help us all out.

Gotta wonder why they took the construction camera down. Having it available seems to be pretty much standard practice these days. When the north endzone was being done, I seem to recall that they took the camera down for a while, allegedly because of an embarrassing water line break or something of the sort.

Quick question. Looking at the renderings and it doesnt go into any detail of the player and coaches areas. I am assuming the players locker room is going to be completely redone as well. Any info on the player/coaches only amenities that are apart of renovation? I am hoping we are creating one of the best facilities for our athletes as we are for our fans.

Just one quick picture I took this afternoon:

Some people hate Dorman Hall. Some hate the Hunter Henry Center. Me? I've always thought the sky boxes at Dudy Noble were the most hideous things on campus and to me, them being gone in their current form is going to be the most aesthetically pleasing thing about the new stadium.

Extending the chair-back seating down to the field. They're also going to do that all the way around past the home dugout although I'm not sure what it'll look like for that club level behind home plate.

If I were to venture a guess - it is a support pole for safety netting that will cover the seating area. That is something that is going to become a requirement in the near future and we are thinking one step ahead of the lawsuit posse (just like with the LFL).

Now that you point it out... good catch... no clue.. really hope it's not for a net... who knows..
What I keep trying to figure out is the hole in the berm wall on the back... That whole thing should be filled in and be one big berm I thought... odd

That would be absolutely horrible. And there is no way that is going to be a requirement in the near future either. There are dozens of stadiums across the country with berm seating down the foul lines and none of them have that. Nor do any stadiums that have actual seating in those areas.

My guess is that it is a temporary utility pole for evening work in that area.

Remember that drawing of the stadium that was put out for companies for bidding purposes? Everyone was pretty upset b/c it was significantly smaller than the original?

Today it looks like they have come closer to the "Death Star" with the stadium scaffolding than that "smaller" drawing depicted. Looks closer to the original in proportion, I think.

Some interesting notes from that article...

"After the full project is finished in 2019, there will be 13,000 seats but total capacity will surpass the capacity before the renovations."
First time I have seen a number of completed seats I believe.

For the 2018 season, the area from foul pole to foul pole with the Left Field Lounge will be completed, and in 2019 there will be premium suites overlooking the field called the Left Field Lofts.
Fedric said the athletics department is deciding how they are going to lease the lofts, but they are overnight suites that can be rented out.
"It's going to be a very unique characteristic of the ball park," Fedric said. "The first phase will feature 12 units, and then there's a planned second phase toward the left field foul goal that can have either 12 or 16 depending on demand."

I didn't realize the lofts were going to happen so soon. Awesome.

As for the Left Field Lounge, there will be individually-framed composite decks with power, storage and better views. Grilling will still be allowed in the Left Field Lounge.

Storage? Last I knew the fire department said their could be no storage unless the university installed sprinklers in the storage...Interesting if true.

Maybe they will allow grills to stay on site but not have to be put in storage at the end of the game? That would alleviate the need for the sprinklers.

The black and white plans that were shown as the bid plans, only had 4 brick divisions. What do y'all think.

No.... just no...What are you talking about... ?
It lines up exactly as the bid picture....

The area you are talking about in right folder. you can clearly tell the difference for several reasons.
1) The SIZE of the RF circle entrance is SMALLER.
2) You now have a lot smaller pathway entering the grandstand

And further.. I'm lost at what you are seeing at saying 4 columns or 7 columns in the ring. (we REALLLLY should use this as a ring of honor with something out there... come on.. COMMON SENSE which is one of the rasons i hated the smaller version)

Furthermore. the grandstand is what it is, it will be bigger and have more seating obviously and allow more standing room. I saw somewhere a number of 15k VIEWABLE seats the other day and that was exciting news.
The biggest difference in version is viewing angles since we didn't keep the more aggressive lines down the lines. And we lost a section or two that would have been built on each end. so its shorter.

Chill dude, I just said it looks like the original, not that it was the first plan. Scooba, what I was mentioning is the brick pavers used at the entrance in that right field circle separating the concrete that you WALK on. The original plan had 7 lines of brick pavers that matched up to the columns. What we understood as the bid plans showed 4 lines of brick pavers. My <17>ing observation was it look like there were more than 4 columns meaning it may be closer to the original design which is what I hope they did.

Geez. Calm down. Ok I see on the plans what you are talking about but they haven't started construction of the walkways that I can see. Have watched Genes video several times and see no signs of the brick pavers at the entrance you are talking about. So I'm interested in what you are seeing at what second mark?

Same with foundation for the lefts? Gene is filming from behind the 1st base grandstand construction you can't see behind the Left field lounge (which they haven't started the wood structure part like in RF yet) The wood you see behind the concrete in LF at 1:07 is the 2nd level of the lofts with the wood bracing for the concrete being poured. You can see on the live cam shot today that's been removed.

What ticks me off the most about the scaled down (bid) design is that you're going to have an extremely small walkway between the "circular entryway" and the grandstand. That's going to create one heck of a bottleneck trying to move that many people through what appears to be a 20-foot wide opening to the grandstands.

That, plus, the smaller circle entryway looks like crap.

Some of that space in the original was non-view-able space. So I understand shrinking it. But not that small as you point out. If they had doubled the walkway over to the end (width) of the grandstand instead of midway, the walkway would be twice as depth and still have view-able angles. The land is shown as green space so it's not being used and it couldn't have been that more expensive. Oh well.

Scooba, the number of brick pavers is equal to the number of columns on the entrance side as they radiate out from each one. I was not able to count the number of columns on the entrance side, so I don't know the numbers of pavers, to see if it equals those in the original drawing

Wow!! We are building the greatest stadium in college baseball and ppl are complaining. Unbelievable

No worries.. I'll admit I've spent A LARGE amount of time watching this project and dreaming about details over the past 10 years of what we could have. the original blew me away for so many reasons.. especially wanting to remove the whole stadium and fix the sight line and angle issue.

And I'll admit. It's still going to be an amazing stadium (reserving best in country till I see what they do with the outside design.. aesthetics do count) but I do still have my issues with it compared to the original design.

I'm interested to see something else.. concerning the pathway from RF to the grandstand now that i noticed it. will that pathway be built on top of fill dirt or be structurally raised to the level above the berms and lower level seating.
If it's backfill that's more space we could have used for something else especially if that pathway was twice as wide. Oh well.

Well the major parts are up for the first half..and the field is down.. so the cam feed is kinda boring now haha

Say what you want. Is what is being built the same as the first plans unveiled? No. Neither was Davis Wade reno (most reno's aren't whether commercial or residential). But its close. AND.. What IS being built is going to be 1. A dramatic upgrade 2. GOING TO BE AWESOME. #1 in the country will be in the eye of the beholder but this will put us in the conversation. I believe our fans will take it over the top. When packed, the fans are going to feel right on TOP of the visiting team. With cowbells in hand, its going to be super intimidating place to play baseball! I, for one, LOVE what I am seeing coming together! Especially the continuous concourse around outfield. It's always "technically" been there, but I think it being visible now, will add just another dimension to our atmosphere. I am also interested to see what upgrades we make to the locker room/player amenities as obviously, this will have a bigger impact than anything on what we put on the field! Just my .02.

Not a turf guy - but it looks like the top dressed the field with sand. It helps spur growth.

the individual spaces in the left field lounge and boy, some of those spaces look pretty small. Odd shaped as well. Not to mention the steps in some of them. looking at 2-3 workers standing in a space makes it look like you wouldn't be able to get but 6-8 people in some of the spaces. Add in chairs, grill and coolers, etc. and I'm not so sure about how these are going to be accepted. Hope it works out.

First level is covered parking. Don't know how they will handle 2nd level - maybe mechanical rooms to keep the rooftop clear for cool stuff?

ETA - looking more closely, the first and second "levels" are open with no floor separating them (they have already started pouring the floors above). So it looks like they understood that they didn't need to waste money on finished spaces until they got above the back of the Lounge. Good architects think of shit like that....

I think those look like flower beds for some landscaping. Guessing the sculptures will be facing each other and towards the parking lot. People will want to take pictures from the front of them and they won't be taken from the backside so they are landscaping around the back so that it will look more interesting as you leave the stadium. Will also keep people from climbing on the backside.

To me that looks like ground/dirt inside the confines of the "bed" not brick. I didn't really look at any images before they built the bases so have nothing to compare it too but might it be possible that there was no concrete poured there originally because they planned some landscaping in that spot? If you look at the depth inside and outside the "bed" it appears that there is a difference and the depth inside is deeper than the bricked area.

Anyone know why the Omaha club level chair backs are black or grey? It would look so much better if they matched the rest of the grandstand

Note the field level club seats.. look greenish. I think it's to make them blend in better since they are so low to the field.

Still hate they didn't add ribbon boards along the facade of the upper deck. Subtle touch that takes it up even another notch. Also, helps some of those in the outfield not have to turn all the way around to see the scoreboard.

Yep... good point. I know when I used to sit out in LF it was very difficult to see the scoreboard at times especially during the day. There was the small one up by the pressbox.

I haven't seen, but is there not room in the design to add the ribbon at a later date?

Might be.. but with a job like that, which requires adding conduit and more power ... why not do it the first time.

Yea, it looks like a perfect place for some and it would fit in nicely. Like Scooba said, might as well do it now. They don't add a massive cost.

After looking at the video Gene posted, I'm not sure that front flange of the upper deck is wide enough. But I'm not a real engineer to know. Plus depending on what the height is between the two levels they might not want to impede the sight line from the area where you can stand and watch.

Scooba, I am an old sign man, and you can get the digital boards in any size you want.
