I can't quite grasp where meatballs like him fit into the modern media landscape.

How many times since Mullen has been here have they finished ahead of us? How many times were we picked behind them?

Is there any way that we could do a project to check the accuracy of these so called prognostication experts? That would be great info to have. I'm sure they are correct with the top 2 teams but after that I think they miss by a bunch.

Yep... Steele (magazine) is one of the most accurate...

But accurate, in this case, is so relative. It's analogous to whose garbage is the least fragrant.

he went with OM over us.

I'd bet his rankings correlate to his number of subscribers per fan base.

Phil doesn't pay attention to last year's defense for OM, who they lost, who returns, the fact that LBer is their weakest position, and their D.C. is a 25 year position coach. I personally think we will be pretty good if our WR's can produce, add the running game, hopefully consistency in the kicking game, and a real, proven D.C. with a lot of talent on that side of the ball. Patterson will have his share of growing pains as well.

Dang, I knew he was pretty good, but that's strong, IMO.

Good research.

Not that difficult to pick them 6th or 7th every year...

I always tell my kids that the Egg Bowl is the battle for last place in the SEC West. Usually true.

So lets give the guy credit for being wrong 7 of 8 years? Wrong is still wrong. Close means nothing, if close counted we'd be SEC champs. State will probably finish 5th in west with UPig and OM behind us. Depends on LSU game, we pull that off we are in good shape. If not it comes down to us and A&M for 4th in the west

A lot of this will depend in how hungry the team is this year. Last year we were stove up from 2014 and 2015. Coaches need to recognize this and squash it immediately.

We've got some significant question marks, but what in the hell does he see at um that would make him think UM over us? Even with an easier schedule, they were a train wreck by the end of last year. We were just a car wreck.

While his picks are pretty close what our fanbase is pissed about is that other than 2011 he always picked us below what we actually accomplished. Obviously that means he's giving someone else more credit than they deserve and he is consistently undervaluing us.

The fact the picked us 6th in 2014 destroys all credibility from the rest of the list.

Anyone who closely follows college football in the SEC can pick the order of finish for all teams in a division with 90% accuracy within 1 or 2 spots either direction. Anyone can do that. Steele uses a bunch of advanced stats and metrics and his results really aren't much better than anyone else. Although they are marginally better because he isn't catering to the largest fanbases with his predictions.

Yep. I can pick the west every year and be as close or better than him.

he went with OM over us.

I was listening to his show the week before we played Auburn in 2014. Someone asked who the better QB was between Nick Marshall and Dak Prescott. His phrase was " That;s like asking who would you rather date. Miss California or Miss New York. Give me 2nd and I'll be happy."

Yeah, that worked out well. I never listened to his show again.
