The NCAA rules say that the head coach is responsible for the actions of those under him whether he knows about those actions or not.

Could the following be an out for Freeze? Barney was an "Assistant Athletic Director for High School Recruiting" or something to that effect. Being an Assistant AD, did he actually report to Freeze ... was he in Freeze's chain of command ... or did he report to Bjork?

If he wasn't a a direct report to Freeze, perhaps Freeze would not be responsible for his actions. Maybe that's why they're blaming Barney for all the serious violations.

He was on the OM Football Support Staff which reports to and is under Freeze. So no out there.

NCAA Division I Bylaw 11.1.1.1 states that a head coach is presumed to be responsible for the actions of all staff members who report, directly or indirectly, to the head coach. The head coach will be held accountable for violations in the program unless he or she can rebut the presumption of responsibility.

Nope it ain't that easy.

Freeze took Werner off the road due to Werner being a single dad with a special needs child. Freeze asked the NCAA for special permission to let Barney go on the road. So yea he was under Freeze.

And the only way he can rebut that is prove that he was not the OM HC when those violations occurred.

He would have still been under Freeze even if that special permission situation had not come up.
