If this were a court proceeding, they would have immunity from any defamation claim.

If UM wasn't already 17ed, he could probably get them to give him a significant payoff so that he doesn't go file a defamation suit even though the damages would be questionable (What kind of damage is done to Barneys reputation by claiming he was a employee who knowingly violated the rules despite instructions to the contrary versus claiming that he was an employee who knowingly violated the rules at the request of his boss?) because they wouldn't want him messing up their NCAA case.

As it is, I'm not sure it matters if he goes public with exactly what Freeze knew, because they're probably screwed anyway, so how much money would they be willing to spend to keep him quiet.
