ESPN is just doing what a lot of businesses do when costs keep getting higher. They are eliminating the reporters that have worked their way up to earning big dollars. ESPN probably figures they can get some young guy lower on the salary range and still have the same ratings. If their ratings don't drop then it was a good cost cutting move.
