I want to piggy back off of the earlier thread on World War Two history and see if anyone has any stories from the First World War. I personally don't because I am to young to have any to have met any veterans of that war. So if anyone has stories to share please do, in honor of the 100 year anniversary of the US entrance into the Great War.

No stories but I recommend the series "The First World War" if you want an in depth look at what started it and how it played out over the course of the war. I found it on Prime but there's a link below to it on Youtube. It's a 10 part series.

A great book to pick up is "the last of the doughboys" I can't remember the author but the Madison county library system has it on online audiobook. I'd recommend it, it has some first hand interviews with remaining ww1 veterans in the 2000s.

Anybody ever seen The Lost Batallion? About a true story with Rick Schroeder starring.

I wish I had stories like I do with my granddad and his brothers.

However, I do have my Great-Grandfather's WWI helmet and some letters he wrote home from France. Nothing really interesting other than he was missing my great-grandmother and his daughter (his first child, who is now 98). When my dad was a kid, his gas mask was still around. His uncles (sons of the WWI vet), used scare him with it.

Alls Quiet on the Western Front one of the greatest movies ever made. The Lost Battalion was also pretty good.

What I like about The Lost Batallion is that during the comercial breaks you get to hear commentary from historans as they walk you thru what you just saw. The commander actually committed suicide a yr or 2 after the war.

Dan Carlin's Hardcore History series on WWI I thought was riveting. It's a 5 part series called "Blueprint for Armageddon". It's lengthy, each part 3+ hours long, but I absolutely never got bored listening to it.
