His highlight tape on 24/7 is awful. Missed blocks, decent catches but gets destroyed in the open field, etc. When like your 5th highlight is you blocking on a 10 yard gain and you are a TE, you probably don't have many offers, which he doesn't.

Hopefully we can do something with this kid but if he's running a 5.0 40, Powers Warren may turn into Rufus Warren.

He does appear a little slow twitch.

Not sure what the angle is with this one.

Glad we were able to beat out Bemidji State, whoever the hell that is, for him.

Apparently not.

I think we actually signed him.

Funny thing is; the narrative when Ravian Pierce chose Syracuse was that we didn't need any more TEs.

Is this a future LT?

Westdawg

good pad height in a 3 point stance, decent hands catching, but lacks speed, hips are a little rigid for a receiving TE, and never really "engages" his blocks with major intensity in that video.
Personally, i think they are looking at another "project" athlete at the OT position. At the least, occupy a rusher on short yardage situations. he has the height and wingspan. And he actually pulled really well across the line, which we do a lot of with our OTs in run plays.

He averaged 18 yards a catch last season. That might be something our staff saw in him they liked. It does seem odd that we'd go all the way to Minnesota to offer a lightly-recruited player. There's got to be something about him our staff really likes.

Hope he turns into a good player for us.

I would assume he's a walk-on, no?

ETA: Nevermind, he's on scholarship. Weird.

The kid has been at IMG this Spring & apparently was offered a preferred walk-on spot by TN. Says numerous schools wanted him to be a post-grad so they could offer him in 2018, but MSU had a scholarship & he took it.

He does have soft hands for a big guy. And for the record 247 says DJ Looney is his primary recruiter.

When it comes to hevesy and Mullen signing bigs for offense, "logic" should be left out of the conversation.

Welcome aboard Powers!! Enjoy your day in the sun and please make sure you knock Shotgun's dick in the dirt on fan day. He'll be the guy that looks like he hasn't left his basement in 8 months cause he hasn't. So easy to throw stones at a high school kid during one of the best days of his life tho.

Surely we would not waste an available scholarship on a not so spectacular 2017 signee, especially since our 2018 class is going to be short on scholarships*********

Maybe neither here nor there with recruiting, but he's from an interesting family. From his dad's bio (http://www.vikings.com/team/staff/kevin-warren/9670a586-5099-4576-967f-269260c0cbed) on the Vikings' website:

Warren is the highest-ranking African-American executive working on the business side for a team in the NFL and is the first African-American COO in NFL history.

Warren earned his bachelor?s in business administration from Grand Canyon University in 1986, his MBA from Arizona State University in 1988, and his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Notre Dame School of Law in 1990. Warren is a licensed attorney with the State Bar of Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota (House Counsel-Rule 10), and the District of Columbia.

Warren?s first exposure to sports law came after he graduated from Notre Dame Law school. He worked at a law firm that specialized in representing universities charged with NCAA violations. Warren also later worked as a sports and entertainment attorney/agent, representing various professional athletes, entertainers and broadcasters . . . .

Several members of Warren?s family have helped fuel his life-long passion for sports, including his father, the late Dr. Morrison Warren, Sr., who played professional football for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1948 during the era of the All-American Football Conference, before the league was merged with the NFL. The senior Warren would go on to be the first African-American President of a major college bowl game when he was named President of the 1982 Fiesta Bowl Board of Directors and was recently named one of Arizona State University?s 50 Greatest Football Players. Warren?s oldest brother, Morrison, Jr., was one of the first African-American scholarship athletes at Stanford, playing football for the Cardinal in the early 1960s . . . .

Philanthropy is an integral part of Warren?s life and he and his wife Greta are active members of the Minneapolis-St. Paul community. In December 2014, Kevin and Greta created Carolyn?s Comforts in conjunction with the University of Minnesota Masonic Children?s Hospital and are donating $1 million to honor the legacy of his sister Carolyn Elaine Warren-Knox who passed away of brain cancer in October of 2014.

In 2012, the Warren family ?adopted? Lucy Craft Laney Community School in Minneapolis, which is predominantly African-American and has 98% of its student population coming from underserved communities. Over the past four years, the family has donated nearly 3,000 backpacks filled with school supplies for the entire school year to every student. In addition to the backpacks and school supplies, the family has also purchased basketball uniforms for both the boys and girls basketball teams, school uniforms for some individual students and donate their time mentoring students at Lucy Laney.

His professional associations include serving on the Super Bowl LII Host Committee and . . . as a member of the selection committee to hire the next Athletic Director at the University of Minnesota . . . . Warren is a Life Member of the Fiesta Bowl Board of Directors.

Lots of favorable, national press surrounding his dad recently, too:

Not a bad family to have in the fold.
