0 walks thru 17 games this year. 65 abs. 1 walk for his entire short MLB career. 100 abs. Bruh learn to look at a ****ing pitch every once in a blue moon. That is a retarded stat that will get you sent back to AAA. C34 gonna be sucking his own dick over this one pretty soon.

Wasn't his claim that he would never hit .250 above like AA?

Anyway, yes, he needs to walk. Like ever.

Swings early in counts because he can't hit a breaking ball and wants to avoid it at all costs. This isn't about learning a better approach. It's about a hitter protecting against his weakness.

He'll have to be a Kris Davis type to succeed in MLB.

then he better be able to hit dingers on balls outside the zone like Vlad, because with that approach he'll never see a FB for a strike.

Just went and checked out his stats and to add insult to injury - his lone walk was intentional. Ha!

I thought of vlad when I read OP. Renfroe will never make contact like vlad... 95 is the most Ks vlad had in a season and that was 677 PAs

Damn we have some haters in our fanbase. The dude is a rookie. All the way back to high school, he has adjusted well to the pitching talent at every level of baseball he has played after some intermediate period where he struggles initially. There is no reason not to expect that to continue. He's a high pick that is being well paid, so I'd expect the Padres to let him play through those struggles this year unless he just totally collapses. But right now, he still has a career .280 average in MLB and .871 OPS even with the early struggles. Not too shabby. Yes, he needs to be more selective at the plate but that will come with time. He'll be fine.

That's Jeff Francoeur territory. Guessing his career will look very similar unless something changes.

C34 said Renfroe's bat would never keep him in MLB for an entire season. While C34 will probably end up on the wrong side of this one- Renfroe isn't helping his cause with all the K's

As a matter of fact- I think the quote was "Renfroe is an all-star defender with a AA bat"

Well, that certainly couldn't be more wrong, considering he's already raked the hell out of AAA pitching.

And, in case anyone was wondering, he is 2-3 tonight against the Marlins with another well hit line-out as well, and what else? Yep, a walk.

I remember he said that he would never hit over .250 and if he did to come talk to him then. After he hit so well last year, of course he said it was a fluke and not sustainable. But C34 definitely said he would never hit over.250

MLB career= .291/.305/.544 ops .848

oWAR = 0.6 in 29 games, comes out to about 3.4 over 162 games

dWAR = -0.3 in 29 games, comes out to about -1.7 over 162 games

Seems C34 has it mixed up so far on an admittingly small sample size

Haha yep. I just can't help myself sometimes in spite of my best attempts to resist. But usually he at least gets basic statistical facts right even if there's a bogus agenda behind it.

And also to be fair, the artist formerly known as C34 didn't start the thread. Dawg61 and others basically begged him to chime in with their comments. I'll never understand why our fans eat their own as much as they do, especially for a rookie MLB player that is less than 30 games into his career in the show (and only 3 weeks into the current season) who has still put up very respectable numbers.

Cause I'd like him to stay in the majors and until last night he hadn't taken a ****ing walk yet. I could lay down in the batters box and eat dirt and get walked more than Renfroe.

Right, but he turned it into one of his click bait threads with this one:

Low balls him statistically to get a rise out of people, then takes a swipe at him in a fashion where he can claim innocence if someone calls him out for shitting on an MSU athlete for no reason at all.

You can look at a list of the top 30-40 hitters by average in MLB right now and you will see several guys that only have 1-2 walks. Its not nearly as big of a deal as its being made out to be. Especially considering that Renfroe is not in the show to go up there and work counts. He's up to rack up XBH's and try to drive the ball when he can. He's likely being coached to swing at fastballs when he sees them.

Perfect example of why Jake should come back next year. Spend another year with Coach Cann..
Learn to take some pitches and be more selective.
He won't have the luxury Hunter does with his lack of pop..

It'd be great if he does; but if he's top 3 rounds like projected, I'll be shocked if he comes back.

Renfroe is 0-3 so far tonight (Saturday). He just walked in the 10th inning. Game is in the top of the 11th. His average has dropped to .239 entering the 11th inning. It was .250 entering the game.

Renfroe singles in the bottom of the 11th inning. Average back up to .250 after finishing the night 1-4 with a walk.

Renfroe has adjusted each level and gotten better. He changed his stance which has helped a lot. He certainly has a chance to play for a long time because he is probably one of the best defensive right fielders and he can hit it a country mile.

I've known renfroe since 10th grade. He's a hell of an athlete. I hope he learns to hit the big league breaking ball though. If he doesn't I see his MLB career resembling Jeff francour
