Imitated a favorite from a local place tonight - a Charleston Saute. Shrimp sauted with ham, fried okra, tomatoes and green peppers. Served over creamy grits.

Smoked beef short ribs for me.....baby back pork ribs for family done on the Jambo offset with mix of hickory and pecan. As far as liquid enjoyment that is still in conference! I do wish this thread would become a staple, love the pics some of you DOGS add with your post......Would love to see some DOG weekend warriors in action from the campus during Fball season....I’m a dry rub guy when it comes to pork ribs and SPG with the beef. I usually use Ely’s pepper seasoning for the beef and I believe the Shapleys/Ely’s connection is a DOG blood line unless I’m mistaken, If i’m correct it’s a wonderful product.

I guess I didn't get the memo. About to try Ten50 BBQ in Richardson for the first time. Met the owner whose dad played football for state back in the 50s.

Had a serious hankering for seafood after a week in Eastern Europe. Grilled red snapper, corn, squash/zucchini and hot dogs for speckledawg jr. Enjoying another series win for the dawgs. Eagle Rare to help it all down.

The grocery store had monk fish for $10 a pound...not a bad price, and a really interesting fish if you've never had it (almost has the texture of lobster tail). It's roasted, and served on sauteed spinach and a pomme rosti, with grilled tomatoes and a sauce I made from some leftover riesling. Pretty damn good. Tonight I'm drinking Bass.

Monk fish in Mississippi? The Kroger in Starkville? I wish one of the ones in Tupelo would branch out a bit. Wait minute....aren't you in Boston now? We like to brag about Gulf Seafood but cold water seafood is the BEST. Scotland trumps New England by the way.

Tell you what...the shrimp, blue crab, specks, and reds are things I crave, and all things that are un-Godly expensive up here. There really isn't such a thing as a affordable shrimp...I miss the old Vietnamese guy in Ocean Springs that always sold me 8's or 10's (that's 8 or 10 shrimp per pound) for $6/lb....but I guess that's the trade off for having cheap lobster, ballin' oysters, scallops, and a pretty good assortment of fish. I'm enjoying the selection, but I prefer the standards I grew up with.

Let's not get carried away. Some good options, but I'll take the GOM any day for seafood.

Wow, we do take for granted the shrimp here. I agree on the specks, the best fish there is, PERIOD. I love blue crabs but there are others. That being said cold water scallops and oysters are lights out better than what we get here. I'm not a lobster fan, cheap or otherwise. As for Scotland: I've had mussels here, and hated them. Those over there were hands down the best seafood I have ever had. I had them twice in two vastly different places. They were incredible both places. The oysters there were by far and away the best I have ever had. Here is one for you.........I have never seen them on a menu anywhere outside of Scotland.......langoustines. I had them three separate times and places......AWESOME.

Yeah, I've had them. Dee-Lish. They were everywhere in England when I was there, but I've only seen them here at pretty fancy joints.

I may be recalling it wrong, but some US chain used to do langoustines as a seasonal special. I think it was Red Lobster. I'm sure they were horrible.

Update- didn't get to speak with Dak (about 2-3,000 folks ahead of me), but did get to eat the mudbugs. They were dry (couldn't suck the heads), and they didn't take the time to purge them. To be fair, they prepared 3500 pounds of them, and probably couldn't purge them 3-4 times like you're supposed to. That said, to me they tasted great....they're the first crawfish I've eaten since moving to Texas 4 years ago.

Also, made the DFW CBS 11 evening news.
