He freaking ate it!

Brings up the age old question, what would you do?

I'm not the type to judge somebody for keeping a legal fish. If you want to mount it for the wall, I'm fine with that. Me, I probably would have gotten good pics and measured so I could get a replica made and filmed the release. There is no way I'm putting a knife to a fish like that. None.

I saw that monster. I like to say that I would probably take a lot of pics and let her swim, but who knows in the moment (really hope I get to find out one day!). That said, he's from a different era of fishing. I know my grandfather would have done the exact same thing.

Whats the big deal? Im not an offshore fisherman so maybe its different. I do put all the big bass that I catch back

Think of it like people do with keeping/eating larger bass. There didn't use to be much thought about it on trout, but much more debate the last several years. The popular idea is to toss the big girls back to keep producing more, as with bass.

Personally, I don't have an issue with him killing the fish. A lot of people would disagree with me but like speck said earlier, its hard to judge somebody off the fish of a lifetime. He was within his legal right to harvest the fish. I just cannot believe he ate it. If I ever was lucky enough to catch a fish like that, I'd never put a knife to it. If I kept it, its for the wall. I don't really like to eat the big fish like that. They're just not as good. For the fryer, give me 12-15 inch specks all day.
