Never seen. Pitcher for the Padres, in the middle of his release motion slides/skips his mound foot about 2 feet before releasing the ball. Ump caught it. Think it was a balk. No sound. In chilies restaurant.

Jordan Walden does it on every pitch. Technically it's a balk to not have one foot touching the rubber before release but they never call it unless it's horribly blatant

It's Carter Capps. Walden does a less egregious version, his hop is smaller.

Capps literally lunges down the mound and yes, his pitch is released a couple feet closer to the plate. It had been allowed before this year, but MLB has instituted a new rule that makes any pitch in which you take an extra step with either foot or re-position your pivot foot in the process of throwing a balk or an illegal pitch if no one is on base.

Jordan Walden does it on every pitch. Technically it's a balk to not have one foot touching the rubber before release but they never call it unless it's horribly blatant

It was allowed because Capps' foot never technically loses contact with the ground, at least on most of his pitches. They allowed it because there was no rule specifically disallowing a pitch so long as your plant foot kept contact with the ground.

Pretty much no one keeps contact with the rubber all the way until release; I don't think that was a rule.

Man, watched a youtube video (search Carter Capps) and that's a unique decided advantage for Capps as his release point of the ball appears to come at around 52 feet from home plate. Will be interesting if MLB comes down on this.

Damn that's a janked up delivery. I can't decide if it's a decided advantage or he's just screwing himself with the extra motion and that hitch that absorbs all his momentum. Also, that knee is going to be ****ed really soon. Regardless, it's dumb. Make him stop.
