Georgia Tech and Tulane Leaving the SEC

Happened when I was a kid, but why did GT and Tulane leave the SEC in the '60's maybe. I know that Sewanee left because they were getting beaten very badly, how about the other two?

Googled it myself, three charter members. Tulane and Sewanee were de-emphasizing athletics. GT wanted other schools to honor SEC Rule 140. You could have 140 on the team but sign 45 a year and some big boys were doing this. Dodd accused them of running tryout camps and running off players that shouldn't have signed in the first place. Dodd signed less per year and honored the 4 year deal. He thought he had the bear's support, but he didn't show up to vote and he bama president voted to keep the rule on a 6 - 6 vote. Good thing no one processes players today.****
